Wine Enthusiast May - 2023

Deep garnet coloured, this expression of Côte-Rôtie leads with an intense nose of entwined red fruits, crushed roses and violets. Fresh blackberries, charcuterie, dried herbs and oak spice linger on the finish. Beautiful and complex, but the wine can easily be cellared for the long haul. Hold through 2030+

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
Peppery red fruits, black raspberries, smoke, and plum aromas come to the surface. On the palate the wine is sweet, juicy, elegant and fresh with plenty of juicy, lifted, fresh fruits in every sniff and sip. This is already delicious and it will be even better with a few more years in the bottle.

Bettane et Desseauve
Always this fine ageing work that refines the tannin and softens the palate, a cuvée where harmony and indulgent pleasure are very much present. One senses the work that went into achieving this, yet the brushstrokes remain invisible.

Guide Vert 2022 The emblem of the house, this Côte-Rôtie, behind a still slightly marked oakiness, delivers a fruit and substance of fine constitution with a supple and fresh palate.

Lively, with a mix of damson plum and bitter cherry notes lined with sanguine and iron hints. An understated style, but this has range and is sneakily long, with dried savoury and bay leaf details on the finish.

Domaine Guigal
Domaine Guigal

The Domaine E. Guigal stands as one of the absolute references of the Rhône Valley, both northern and southern. Founded in 1946 in Ampuis by Étienne Guigal, the family house built its reputation on a demanding interpretation of terroirs and a constant pursuit of excellence. Today led by Marcel and Philippe Guigal, the estate embodies a heritage vision of great wine, recognised on an international scale.

Historically based in Ampuis, Maison Guigal vinifies and matures in its cellars all the great northern Rhône appellations, including Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Hermitage, Saint-Joseph and Crozes-Hermitage. The same site also oversees the ageing of the iconic southern appellations such as Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas, ensuring perfect control of the ageing process and a consistent stylistic identity.

Closely associated with Côte-Rôtie, where it produces some of the most iconic cuvées of the Rhône, Domaine E. Guigal is distinguished by wines of remarkable depth and longevity. Dominant Syrah, a touch of Viognier on the Côte Blonde, patient ageing: the style combines depth and freshness and rewards patience. The estate's greatest vintages range from the 1988 wine to the 1999 vintage, taking in the Ex-Voto from 2003, through to the more recent 2016, 2017 wine and 2018.
