Jancis Robinson June - 2019
Jancis Robinson
Hickory smoke, violets, tobacco, black-cherry fruit, pepper and a touch of stemmy herbal character. Super-fine tannins, and quite light body with a finish that isn't as expansive as the palate. Still young, so the length may well develop.

Falstaff March - 2019
Falstaff
Dark ruby. Dark mineral, ripe, sweet plum, some liquorice, candied violet, a whiff of roasting flavours, black pepper savouriness. Substantial, elegant texture, black sweet cherry, pronounced fruit, silky, but supporting tannins, concentrated, a pleasant nougat touch, ripe plum on the finish, remains very long, some mocha in the aftertaste, sure ageing potential.

Adrian van Velsen - vvWine
Intense ruby, youthful brilliance. Very expressive nose, still markedly influenced by oak, yet this is very fine and well integrated, above which come white pepper, cherries, leather, grass, tobacco — enormously tense, deep, pure and clear as a mountain stream, outstanding complexity. Silky-smooth entry, powerful, dense yet without any heaviness, the tannins are very finely woven, the acidity perfectly integrated, again dark cherries, blackberries, spicy notes — this is a mouthful of wine yet it shows no breadth whatsoever. Long, dark-fruited and very spicy finish. Wow, a monument of a wine and an archetypal Rhône Syrah. 2018–2044+, 19 vvPoints, (96/100)

Wine Spectator October - 2017
Wine Spectator
Very ripe, with layers of fig, boysenberry and plum compote forming the core, inlaid liberally with licorice snap, roasted apple wood and Turkish coffee notes. Shows lots of heft, but everything pulls together on the finish, exhibiting drive and definition.

Domaine Guigal
Domaine Guigal

The Domaine E. Guigal stands as one of the absolute references of the Rhône Valley, both northern and southern. Founded in 1946 in Ampuis by Étienne Guigal, the family house built its reputation on a demanding interpretation of terroirs and a constant pursuit of excellence. Today led by Marcel and Philippe Guigal, the estate embodies a heritage vision of great wine, recognised on an international scale.

Historically based in Ampuis, Maison Guigal vinifies and matures in its cellars all the great northern Rhône appellations, including Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Hermitage, Saint-Joseph and Crozes-Hermitage. The same site also oversees the ageing of the iconic southern appellations such as Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas, ensuring perfect control of the ageing process and a consistent stylistic identity.

Closely associated with Côte-Rôtie, where it produces some of the most iconic cuvées of the Rhône, Domaine E. Guigal is distinguished by wines of remarkable depth and longevity. Dominant Syrah, a touch of Viognier on the Côte Blonde, patient ageing: the style combines depth and freshness and rewards patience. The estate's greatest vintages range from the 1988 wine to the 1999 vintage, taking in the Ex-Voto from 2003, through to the more recent 2016, 2017 wine and 2018.
