A vintage that isn't poured very often, the 2002 Côte Rôtie la Landonne is fully mature, yet has an excellent colour and is far from tired or over the hill. Chocolaty dark fruits, spice-box, ground herbs and assorted meatiness gives way to a medium-bodied, elegant Côte Rôtie that has a seamless texture and plenty of charm.

(6-2006) Very dark crimson. Savoury, leathery, quite different from the previous two. Very round and fruity and very fine tannins extremely well hidden – sort of splits the difference between the Mouline and Turque. Quite dry and focussed but more evolved than most Landonnes at this stage. The wine will be pretty chewy at the beginning of my suggested drinking window but because the tannins are so fine, it should be drinkable at least.

The GUIGAL House vinifies and ages in its cellars in Ampuis the northern appellations of the Rhône Valley which are Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Hermitage, Saint-Joseph and Crozes-Hermitage. The aging of the great southern appellations Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Tavel and Côtes-du-Rhône is also carried out in the Ampuis cellars.

The Ermitage 'Ex-Voto' is produced in the finest vintages while the white and red Saint-Joseph 'Lieu-Dit Saint-Joseph' as well as the famous red Saint-Joseph "Vignes de l'Hospice" are true benchmarks for this Appellation.
