Tom Cannavan January - 2003
Tom Cannavan
Lovely nose on this - fine quality of animal, gamy perfume over rich, earthy red fruits. The palate is tight and has a beautifully delineated fruit quality with excellent ripeness and balance. There is good support from crisp tannins and a mineral acidity. Quality is stamped all over this wine. Excellent/outstanding.

Wine Spectator March - 2003

Absolutely wonderful aromas of flowers, currants and citrus. Full-bodied, yet very, very refined, with a centre core of fruit that tastes like crushed raspberries and goes on and on. Greatest wine from this estate since 1945. Ranked number 59 in the top 100 wines of 2003

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
A very strong effort for Gruaud Larose, possibly eclipsed by what they have done in 2009, this is a pure, full-bodied Gruaud Larose with plenty of new saddle leather, cedar wood, black currants, cherries, liquorice, and Provençal herbs. Spicy, earthy, full-bodied, and rich, it has hit its plateau of full maturity, where it should stay for another 20 or more years.

Adrian van Velsen - vvWine
Medium ruby red. A dream nose, dark fruit, herbs, leather, a hint of animality, tobacco, cherry, floral notes, a poem. On the palate with good concentration, still very beautiful fruit, noticeable structure, fine-grained tannin, the acidity is well dosed, the finish is long-lasting, balanced, dark fruity. A wine with breed and class. Top now, with reserves for 15+ years.

Falstaff November - 2010

Dark ruby garnet, violet reflections. Intense berry fruit, delicate mandarin notes, exotic nuances. Fresh, complex, fine chocolate note, excellent persistence, a wine of convincing length, already accessible, supporting tannins, great future.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
This is developing quite nicely. The tobacco, cassis, herb and spicy cassis nose pairs perfectly with the classically styled, full bodied character, leaving with a blend of cassis, blackberry, earth and a touch of green tapenade in the finish. While this is nice now, it should get even better with a few more years in the bottle.

Wine Enthusiast January - 2003

A very typical wine for the year, with its generous ripe fruit and blackberry jelly flavors. There is just a hint of animal on the palate, but this is overwhelmed by the rich texture.

Jancis Robinson March - 2010

(3-2010) Very dark, thick crimson. Lead pencils and great intensity on the nose with real interest. Hooray! Maybe the merest hint of brett stops the fruit from being super fresh. Shame because it promised much initially. Rather awkward tannins on the finish.

Château Gruaud Larose

Château Gruaud Larose is one of the major historic estates of the Saint-Julien appellation, classified as a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 classification. Founded in the 18th century, the château quickly established itself as a Médoc reference, driven by an ambitious quality vision and a reputation that has extended far beyond the borders of Bordeaux.

Planted on deep gravel terroirs resting on clay-limestone subsoils, the vineyard benefits from an ideal environment for the expression of Cabernet Sauvignon, the dominant grape variety in the blend, complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. This combination gives the wines of Gruaud Larose a pronounced structure, marked aromatic depth and remarkable ageing capacity.

The château is also distinguished by its philosophy summarised in the estate's historic motto: "The King of Wines, the Wine of Kings". Over several decades, significant investments have been made in both vineyard and cellar, with particular attention paid to sustainability, biodiversity and precision in winemaking.

Emblematic vintages such as Château Gruaud Larose 1928, Château Gruaud Larose 1945, Château Gruaud Larose 1982, Château Gruaud Larose 1986, Château Gruaud Larose 1990, Château Gruaud Larose 1991, Château Gruaud Larose 2000, Château Gruaud Larose 2005, Château Gruaud Larose 2009 perfectly illustrate the estate's style: powerful, refined wines, both full-bodied and elegant, now highly sought after in the collectible wine market.
