This tastes of great Cabernet Sauvignon, with its blackcurrant, cedar and herbs and fresh, juicy acidity. It is as fresh as it is rich, but it has a structure of dense tannins that balances the wine. This is one of the best wines from Gruaud-Larose for several years.

Strong ruby, still few signs of age. The nose is profound, complex, seems more “Tuscan” than the 2000, which came across much cooler, Christmas spices, balsamic notes, dark berries, pomegranate. The palate is accessible, clearly shows structure, the balance of fruit, acidity and tannin is right, still seems quite wild and youthful, can definitely age, but doesn't have the charm of the 2000. Now until 2040.

Fabulous, enticing nose with such a dark-hued pool of bramble and black plum, with some herbal and olive edges and a lovely sense of depth and intensity. The palate is tight and youthful of course, the oak adding a creaminess and the tannins steely. Beneath there is a fine quality and depth to the fruit, this has energy and vitality, with a real juiciness in the finish. A wine with real potential to score higher than its current

A beautiful fruity brightness distinguishes this wine with its velvety body and elegant tannicity full of flavour on the finish.

This is showing really nice. It is a good example of why aged Bordeaux is so admired. Color: medium garnet. Color consistent with amount of bottle age. Aroma: cherry, blackberry, plum, red fruit, baking spices, cedar, roasted meat, hint of licorice. Fruit was still fresh and the overall aromas were present. The tertiary aromas were quite present and really more pronounced than the fruit, especially as the wine got more air. Taste: Medium body, medium acidity, medium tannins, and alcohol well integrated. I was impressed with the amount of acidity still present that gave the wine a lighter feel and a pleasant juiciness. The flavors are definitely starting to retreat. The finish was not very long. This wine has aged nicely and should be consumed now. I decanted for about an hour and drank over the next two. As it sat in the glass the fruit faded and it was not as fresh.

True connoisseurs drink Bordeaux with fondue. Fruity examples fit just as well as more mature types. The Gruaud-Larose has good dark fruit and shows delicate mature notes. On the palate, juicy, full-bodied, with dark berry fruit with firm tannic structure and invigorating freshness in the finish.

Aromas of blackberry, meat and earth follow through to a full body, with velvety tannins and a rich finish. Decadent, balanced and very approachable already. I thought it would have been a little better than this.

Medium bodied, bright and fresh, with a lean to the red fruit side of the style range, the wine is better on the nose than the palate, finishing with crisp, crunchy, sweet and tart red fruits. This will develop more secondary aromas, but it's probably going to retain its style.

Brick hue. Riper profile than the five previous vintages. Dark and red fruit on the nose but still a little muddy. Better fruit weight and density on the mid palate with a firmness to the tannins. Touch hard on the finish. Has all the components but misses some precision.

Château Gruaud Larose

Château Gruaud Larose is one of the major historic estates of the Saint-Julien appellation, classified as a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 classification. Founded in the 18th century, the château quickly established itself as a Médoc reference, driven by an ambitious quality vision and a reputation that has extended far beyond the borders of Bordeaux.

Planted on deep gravel terroirs resting on clay-limestone subsoils, the vineyard benefits from an ideal environment for the expression of Cabernet Sauvignon, the dominant grape variety in the blend, complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. This combination gives the wines of Gruaud Larose a pronounced structure, marked aromatic depth and remarkable ageing capacity.

The château is also distinguished by its philosophy summarised in the estate's historic motto: "The King of Wines, the Wine of Kings". Over several decades, significant investments have been made in both vineyard and cellar, with particular attention paid to sustainability, biodiversity and precision in winemaking.

Emblematic vintages such as Château Gruaud Larose 1928, Château Gruaud Larose 1945, Château Gruaud Larose 1982, Château Gruaud Larose 1986, Château Gruaud Larose 1990, Château Gruaud Larose 1991, Château Gruaud Larose 2000, Château Gruaud Larose 2005, Château Gruaud Larose 2009 perfectly illustrate the estate's style: powerful, refined wines, both full-bodied and elegant, now highly sought after in the collectible wine market.
