CHÂTEAU MARGAUX 1989

1989 will be remembered as an exceptionally early and easy year in terms of viticulture. Exceptional conditions favored flowering, veraison and ripening. Regarding the harvest, they did not experience a single day of rain.
The 1989 vintage was a dream year, it is a great vintage in Bordeaux. Château Margaux 1989 is of good quality and resembles the 1982 vintage. Rich, complex and of excellent maturity, this Premier Cru Classé can be drunk now or kept for a few more years.

A joy to drink now, this 1989 is at its ideal peak. A profusion of dried flowers and red fruits is followed by a silky textured palate with firm tannins and good freshness. Delicate, layered and long.

Ready to go, the wine is soft, refined, elegant and while it is not on the concentrated side, the fruit is polished, silky and complex. Drink over the next decade for maximum enjoyment.

Adrian van Velsen - vvWine
Mature Bordeaux red, lightened rim. On the nose deep and very expansive, what a fragrance, animal notes, leather, tobacco alternate with liquorice and dried herbs, above that floral aromas, this is a fabulous aromatic picture, one wants to immerse oneself. On the attack soft and round, the tannin is fine and largely melted away, a well-integrated acidity provides structure, immensely fine and supple with very beautiful fruit and excellent balance. On the finish of marvellous length, shows great finesse. Now until 2030

Bright garnet and some development at the rim. Herbaceous sweetness and undergrowth and pepper. Then more meaty. Finishes dry but not drying though there is definitely less flesh in the middle. By contrast it is fresh and persistent. Later: sweetly herbal and more coffee.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Dwarfed by its younger sibling, the 1990, the 1989 Chateau Margaux has a dark plum/garnet colour and a big, sweet nose of new saddle leather, toasty oak, and weedy black cherry and cassis fruit. The wine is medium-bodied, with relatively elevated tannins, outstanding concentration and purity, but a somewhat clipped as well as compressed finish. This certainly outstanding wine has put on a bit of weight in its evolution in the bottle, but it is hardly one of the most profound efforts from Chateau Margaux. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2025.

Dark colour, intense and slightly evolved. Great fruity nose, intense and very seductive. Very beautiful soft entry in the mouth. The wine rises in the middle and begins to melt, offering much taste and a touch of great finesse. Long, sappy and complex finish. Fine grain. It's delicious.

Château Margaux
Château Margaux

Château Margaux is one of the most prestigious estates of the Margaux appellation and a major historical figure of Bordeaux excellence. Classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé in the official 1855 classification, the château draws on a terroir of fine, deep gravels that encourages the expression of a wine of rare elegance and great aromatic complexity.

The Grand Vin de Château Margaux has been recognised since the 17th century as one of the most accomplished expressions of the Bordeaux vineyard. It owes its qualities to the combination of an exceptional terroir, demanding viticulture and a winemaking approach oriented towards precision and balance. The finesse of the tannins, the aromatic depth, the freshness and the length on the palate are the constant hallmarks of the Margaux style.

The great vintages punctuate its history, from the 1953 wine, then the 1982 vintage to the 1990 and the 2000 vintage, through to the 2015, regarded as one of the estate's recent pinnacles. Le Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux, the second wine, offers a more immediate interpretation. They illustrate the estate's ability to produce wines of great complexity, capable of evolving harmoniously over several decades, whilst retaining a remarkable clarity of their terroir.
