This year, the budbreak and flowering were early and homogeneous. With a summer worthy of a very great vintage, warm and very dry, and the September rains, the grapes reached perfect maturity.
Château Margaux 1995 is a true success. A wine that brings together all the characteristics of a very great wine: richness, power, freshness, complexity and depth. Not all the aromas are yet fully apparent, but the wine promises to be even more harmonious than it already is. It can be kept for several more years before reaching its peak.

Strong ruby garnet, violet rim lightening, on the nose animalistic hints, leather, roasted nuts, vanilla, multi-layered and attractive, on the palate powerful, good extract sweetness, the tannins still require some time, at the moment still a touch too hard, mineral, very promising.

Dark colour, of good intensity and slightly evolved. Fresh nose. Ripe fruit. Fine. Entry on the palate meticulous and even sophisticated. The wine develops aromatic with richness. However after the mid-palate, as with La Tache, it catches on the finish. On the other hand, it shows very long and ultimately very good with the feeling that it needs to be waited for much longer.

Firm, masculine, hard style of Margaux with ample, ripe, fruits, great aromatics, but the tannic spine will take at least another decade to soften, that is if it does. The finish has a touch of greenness in the endnote. I own some, but I am not sure this is going to change much, we will have to wait and see, which is a lot to ask, considering it is already 27 years old!

Slender on the attack, restrained, then expands, fine tannins, very well integrated acidity, complex, with tension and a certain warmth, the wine shows energy without overflowing, appears very balanced within itself and convinces with a very long finish, has reserves. Dark crimson with some evolution at the rim. Very focused and concentrated. Lots of concentrated cassis on the nose. Some graphite. Really cool and fresh (there are apologies for serving it too cool). Middle aged. Far from luscious but very true to type. Still quite bit of tannin in evidence. Work in progress.

Château Margaux

Château Margaux is one of the most prestigious estates of the Margaux appellation and a major historical figure of Bordeaux excellence. Classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé in the official 1855 classification, the château draws on a terroir of fine, deep gravels that encourages the expression of a wine of rare elegance and great aromatic complexity.

The Grand Vin de Château Margaux has been recognised since the 17th century as one of the most accomplished expressions of the Bordeaux vineyard. It owes its qualities to the combination of an exceptional terroir, demanding viticulture and a winemaking approach oriented towards precision and balance. The finesse of the tannins, the aromatic depth, the freshness and the length on the palate are the constant hallmarks of the Margaux style.

The great vintages punctuate its history, from the 1953 wine, then the 1982 vintage to the 1990 and the 2000 vintage, through to the 2015, regarded as one of the estate's recent pinnacles. Le Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux, the second wine, offers a more immediate interpretation. They illustrate the estate's ability to produce wines of great complexity, capable of evolving harmoniously over several decades, whilst retaining a remarkable clarity of their terroir.
