If several bottles are in stock, the photo is non-contractual and illustrates the condition of the bottle.

Note from the chateau: A very hot year, punctuated by well-distributed rainy episodes during spring and autumn. A very fast harvest, 4 selections which are linked under 30°, each time followed by a new contamination, harvests which end in mid-October; a vintage marked by early and rapid harvests, a style devoted to very great wines, as confirmed by Yquem 1959.

SoDivin December - 2011

Beautiful brown colour, splendid nose, very aromatic, candied orange, extraordinary palate, rich and full-bodied ++ with beautiful acidity. The vintage effect is very clear as this wine is over 50 years old but has not "eaten its sugar". Infinite length. Perfection achieved.

Rich, apricot and lime blossom bouquet of great depth ; sweet, powerful, its flesh and fat balanced by its excellent acidity. A hot, dry finish with a touch of caramel.

Great wine at its peak but showing no sign of fading. Tawny with a greenish tinge at the rim. Gloriously tangy. 120 g/l. Great balance with some gunpowder and smokiness. It was extremely hot when the grapes were picked. Amazing that it's as good as it is in an era that pre-dates sophisticated temperature control. Extremely rich with notes of dried fruits. Great balance with strong dried citrus peel notes. Vital. Slightly more pronounced acidity than another bottle I was lucky enough to try late last year in London.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
When Chateau d'Yquem is young, the wine has competition from some of the other top producers in the appellation. But as the wine ages, that is when the rubber hits the road, as Yquem clearly pulls ahead of the competition. Here you find a deep golden, mahogany hue with an ethereal perfume consisting of roasted apricots, burnt caramel, butterscotch, marmalade, overripe pineapple, and nuts, topped with honey. There is blistering acidity that provides lift to the layers of honeyed, caramel topped yellow and orange spiced fruits on the palate. The seamless finish starts off strong, picks up steam, and keeps on going. There is no reason that well-stored bottles cannot age another 30-40 years and maybe more!

Classic, exciting Yquem. Silky, creamy and round, yet armed with plenty of intense botrytized flavors--dried apricot, raisin, dried fig. Full-bodied, with caramel and butterscotch complexity, it ends on a very intense finish. Drink now through 2050.

Château d'Yquem
Château d'Yquem

Château d'Yquem is an absolute reference among great sweet wines and holds a unique place in the viticultural history of Bordeaux. Located at the heart of the Sauternes appellation, the estate benefits from an exceptional terroir and microclimate that favour the development of botrytis cinerea. In the official 1855 classification, Château d'Yquem achieved an unrivalled status by being designated Premier Cru Supérieur, a distinction unique among the grands crus classés.

The identity of Château d'Yquem rests on an extreme level of rigour at every stage of production: very low yields, successive harvest passes (tries) and strict selection of grapes. Long the property of the Lur Saluces family, the estate has belonged since 1997 to the LVMH group, which has chosen to preserve the château's technical independence and historic standards of excellence.

In great years, Château d'Yquem produces vintages that have become iconic, such as the 1908 wine through to the 1921 vintage, considered its pinnacle, by way of 1928 and 1929 which close out a prosperous decade, then the 1937 wine and the 1963 vintage, illustrating an exceptional ageing capacity that can extend over several decades, or even beyond.
