Wine Enthusiast January - 2016
Wine Enthusiast
This wine is rich, with generous black plum and berry fruits. It has a structure that is full, ripe and that will sustain the fruitiness of the wine over many years. The sensation is of velvet, with some force behind it. This remarkable wine will develop well over the medium term and then age for many years. Drink from 2022

Adrian van Velsen - vvWine
Strong ruby, quite dense at the core. Very expressive nose, herbs, mint, chocolate, dark berries, lots of cassis, ripe raspberries, wonderful complexity. Soft on the palate at the start, then the wine grabs hold, very fresh, despite considerable fullness, exceptionally fine tannins, perfectly balanced acidity, red fruit aromas complement the cassis fruit, along with black cherry and spicy elements. Very long and balanced on the finish. Modern in style, very opulent but without any stickiness. Now until 2035

The minimal production of only 15 hectolitres per hectare results in a Pontet Canet that stands above its vintage and expresses only itself. Mineral aromas of graphite and small red berries, noble wood accents, incredibly dense, compact, firm tannin, concentrated, of uncompromising depth and breed. Possesses the longest finish of all Pauillac wines. When to drink: 2023 to 2035

Just about fully developed, the wine is crisp, crunchy, strict, and on the lean, green side of the style range. The finish starts off fruity, finishing with a strong sense of greenness on the endnotes. The wine blends 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot, 13.0% ABV. Drink from 2022-2032.

The Wine Palate: Made from 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot, the 2013 Pontet-Canet is deep garnet coloured. It prances out with alluring notes of rosehip tea, dried lavender, kirsch, and wild sage over a core of cassis, plum preserves, and fragrant earth. Medium to full-bodied, firm, fine-grained, and with compelling tension, it fills the palate with perfumed fruits, finishing long and mineral-tinged.When to drink: 2022 to 2035

Falstaff January - 2021
Falstaff
Dark ruby garnet, violet reflections, delicate ochre rim lightening. Blackberry notes underlaid with candied orange zest, a hint of strawberry jam, tobacco spice, fine balsamic aspect in the background, some honey. Medium complexity, dark forest berry fruit, delicate tannins, feels fresh, but also somewhat more open-knit and at the same time lighter-footed than usual, delicate fruit sweetness on the finish, mineral touch, is already well matured and a pleasure to drink. A clean wine and as Alfred Tesseron says, “Not every year does nature give us a great vintage.” (Drink, 2021 - 2035)

Jancis Robinson September - 2021

Pale garnet, light at the rim. Perfumed, pleasant with leafy, red-fruit notes. Rather light and fluid on the palate, the acidity present and the tannins green and drying on the finish. Well-handled but shows the weakness of the vintage. Clearly for early consumption. When to drink: 2019 to 2026

Château Pontet Canet
Château Pontet Canet

Château Pontet Canet is a Bordeaux wine estate. The 80-hectare vineyard is located in the heart of the Pauillac appellation, not far from Château Mouton Rothschild. Château Pontet Canet is classified as a fifth growth in the 1855 classification.

The wines of Pontet-Canet have always been part of the Médoc legend. Deep ruby, purple, sometimes black, Pontet-Canet wine develops a characteristic nose where black fruits, especially blackcurrant, liquorice, prune, notes of figs, cedar and sometimes cocoa blend together. On tasting, the wine combines power and elegance, density and amplitude. With a muscular character, it imposes a serene idea of classicism with its tannic structure that reveals a long and peaceful ageing potential. The men of Pontet-Canet continuously pursue the work undertaken more than three centuries ago, bringing, in each era, the most advanced techniques with an eternal concern to improve the quality of the wine while respecting and expressing the purest expression of the terroir.

The wine of Pontet-Canet, as well as the second wine, Les Hauts de Pontet-Canet, are exclusively sold by wine merchants in Bordeaux.
