Shows beautiful aromas of crushed berries and currant, with hints of mineral. Full-bodied, with lovely currant, liquorice and mint. Long and caressing. Very refined and balanced. Another winner from Pontet-Canet.

Foursquare, powerful wine that shows great ripeness, solid, firm red berry fruits, a touch of mint, and black, almost impenetrable tannins. Expect this impressive wine to age for 10–15 years.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Tasted at the Pontet-Canet vertical in London, it seems clear that the 2004 Château Pontet-Canet is predestined to always fall under the shadow of the 2005. Don't overlook this gem. The bouquet delivers pure blackberry, pencil lead and tobacco notes that are more generous than the 2005 at the moment—open for business, you might say. There is an element of dried herbs here, a hint of black tar. The palate is medium-bodied and quite sturdy in the mouth, the tannins perhaps "abrasive" when juxtaposed against the 2005, however they are couched in unexpectedly intense earthy black fruit that frame a tannic finish. If you hanker for a sumptuous Pontet-Canet, then opt for 2003 or 2009, but if your predilection is for a more "classic" Pauillac, then 2004 Pontet-Canet fits the bill.

Meaty, very solid black fruit quality, with a taut feeling of smooth, silky black fruit. On the palate this has real juiciness again, with masses of kirsch-like cherry, and a dry, bittersweet tannin structure.

Fresh herbs, cedar, cassis and oak in the nose, the wine is medium bodied, open and finishes with a cassis and olive note in the red berry finish.

Château Pontet Canet
Château Pontet Canet

Château Pontet Canet is a Bordeaux wine estate. The 80-hectare vineyard is located in the heart of the Pauillac appellation, not far from Château Mouton Rothschild. Château Pontet Canet is classified as a fifth growth in the 1855 classification.

The wines of Pontet-Canet have always been part of the Médoc legend. Deep ruby, purple, sometimes black, Pontet-Canet wine develops a characteristic nose where black fruits, especially blackcurrant, liquorice, prune, notes of figs, cedar and sometimes cocoa blend together. On tasting, the wine combines power and elegance, density and amplitude. With a muscular character, it imposes a serene idea of classicism with its tannic structure that reveals a long and peaceful ageing potential. The men of Pontet-Canet continuously pursue the work undertaken more than three centuries ago, bringing, in each era, the most advanced techniques with an eternal concern to improve the quality of the wine while respecting and expressing the purest expression of the terroir.

The wine of Pontet-Canet, as well as the second wine, Les Hauts de Pontet-Canet, are exclusively sold by wine merchants in Bordeaux.
