Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
Another nice surprise from this forgotten year. The wine is complex, earthy, fresh, vibrant and pleasing, in an older, classic style. If you're seeking an anniversary or birth year wine, this is a good choice.

In a holding pattern now; a fine claret at its peak. Medium-red to garnet color with spicy, chocolate character on the nose and palate. Medium-bodied with a soft texture and cedar aftertaste.

Jean-Marc Quarin December - 1990
Jean-Marc Quarin
Bordeaux red. Slight evolution. Rather low intensity. Lively. Reductive. Clean nose, medium intensity. Subtle woody nuances mingled with fruit. Fine. Clear and intense on swirling. Rather complex nuances of tobacco and fruit. Notes of marron glacé. Interesting. Soft attack. Evolution on a smooth structure, straight in its form, with a fine and melted note. Balanced evolution on an oval form towards a soft and very aromatic finish.

Château Montrose

Château Montrose is one of the most iconic estates in the Saint-Estèphe appellation on the Left Bank of Bordeaux. Classified as a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé in 1855, it embodies the power, longevity and stylistic rigour characteristic of the great wines of the northern Médoc. Located at the southern tip of Saint-Estèphe, immediately bordering the Gironde, the estate benefits from a terroir of rare homogeneity, often compared to that of the greatest neighbouring classified growths of Pauillac.

The vineyard of Château Montrose extends over approximately 95 hectares in a single block, predominantly planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and a touch of Petit Verdot. This configuration gives the wines a deep structure, a pronounced aromatic intensity and a remarkable ageing potential. Montrose's style is distinguished by its balance between controlled power, freshness and tannic precision.

Among the most outstanding vintages are Château Montrose 1921, Château Montrose 1989, Château Montrose 1990, Château Montrose 1996, Château Montrose 2000, Château Montrose 2009, Château Montrose 2010, Château Montrose 2015, regularly acclaimed for their concentration and ageing potential. The estate also produces a recognised second wine, La Dame de Montrose, which comes from the same quality standards and offers a more accessible interpretation of the terroir.
