Firm crimson. Very little nose. Fresh fruit and acidity on the palate with decent balance and some stony quality. Certainly expressive of its appellation... but hard work!

Jean-Marc Quarin February - 2018
Jean-Marc Quarin
This is a consistently successful vintage, even though it has experienced more demonstrative phases. Dark, intense colour with black reflections. Fruity nose, slightly leafy and ripe at the same time. Mellow on the attack, firm and rather rich on the development, flavoursome, the wine stretches out on the finish with tannins that are still somewhat marked. However, the length is good.

Château Montrose

Château Montrose is one of the most emblematic estates in the Saint-Estèphe appellation, on the left bank of Bordeaux. Classified as a Second Grand Cru Classé in 1855, it embodies the power, longevity and stylistic rigour characteristic of the great wines of the northern Médoc. Located at the southern tip of Saint-Estèphe, immediately bordering the Gironde, the estate benefits from a terroir of rare homogeneity, often compared to that of the greatest classified growths of neighbouring Pauillac.

The vineyard of Château Montrose extends over approximately 95 hectares in a single block, predominantly planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and a touch of Petit Verdot. This configuration gives the wines a profound structure, marked aromatic intensity and a remarkable ageing capacity. The Montrose style is distinguished by its balance between controlled power, freshness and tannic precision.

Among the most notable vintages are Château Montrose 1921, Château Montrose 1989, Château Montrose 1990, Château Montrose 1996, Château Montrose 2000, Château Montrose 2009, Château Montrose 2010, Château Montrose 2015, regularly praised for their concentration and ageing potential. The estate also produces a renowned second wine, La Dame de Montrose, made with the same quality requirements and offering a more accessible expression of the terroir.
