Tom Cannavan January - 2011
Tom Cannavan
From a vineyard strewn with large boulders, which Alain has found down to 15 metres of depth. Again 100% Tannat, from a parcel planted in 1990 in this windy, special soil. Meaty nose, the aromas are all about that umami depth, then teasingly a little more ripe black fruit comes through, and in the background the charry oak too. It unfolds aromatically this wine. The palate has fabulous sweetness and freshness too, with that weight and profound depth balanced by good acidity and a certain crispness to the tannins.

Château Montus
Montus
In 1979, driven by a desire for independence from the family estate (Château BOUSCASSE), Alain Brumont purchased Château MONTUS. He immediately renewed the entire vineyard, making no concessions to quality: (low-yielding rootstocks, selected plants, best-exposed plots, raised trellising...). In 1982, Alain Brumont vinified for the first time plantings less than 3 years old. This wine defied expectations and established itself as a leader. It won several competitions. In 1985, Alain Brumont created Montus Prestige, the first Madiran made from 100% Tannat and entirely aged in new oak barrels. A revolution for the time that would leave a lasting impression. "The second revolution came with white Montus", Alain Brumont likes to say, who bet on Petit Courbu and thus demonstrated the full potential of this little-known grape variety from the Pacherenc du Vic Bilh appellation, possessing natural acidity, floral aromas and minerality.
