Vertdevin April - 2021
Vertdevin
The nose is elegant, refined and offers power (all in finesse), depth, a fine grain. It reveals notes of pulpy wild blackcurrant, pulpy/ripe raspberry and small notes of violet combined with touches of morello cherry, blueberry as well as fine notes of vanilla pod, camphor and a very discreet note of black tea. The palate is fruity, full of elegance, well-balanced and offers a mineral, juicy, elegant structure, beautiful pulpy/juicy fruit, beautiful fleshiness as well as precision and an expansive character. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of pulpy wild blackberry, ripe black fruits, very ripe raspberry and small notes of strawberry combined with small touches of violet, cherry blossom as well as notes of liquorice, tobacco, nutmeg, a discreet hint of camphor, black tea, a very discreet hint of Sichuan pepper and an imperceptible hint of undergrowth. Good length.

Value and classified growths do not always go together, but they are paired in this wine. With ample cassis, blackberry, earth and hints of tobacco, the wine has some depth, body, freshness and fine tannins. From a blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon and 28% Merlot, give it a few hours of air, or 5-7 years before it opens and starts to show.

The wine from this chateau, whose vines touch those of Latour, is solid and dense, with a sense of severity that is often the hallmark of this fifth growth. It is dark and the fruits whisper in the distance. This needs to age for several years.

The deep purple 2010 Haut-Bages-Liberal has lifted aromatics of violets, cassis, blackberries and plums, supported by ripe, delicate and beautifully restrained flavours which are fresh and lively in the mid palate. This is a classic Pauillac of great sensuality and elegance.

Château Haut Bages Liberal
Haut Bages Liberal, a fifth growth, has a splendid plot very close to Château Latour and disperses the rest of its vineyard on the lands of Bages. It therefore has everything to produce a complete Pauillac. M. Bettane in The 1997 Classification. It has consistently produced an excellent, underestimated wine since the mid-70s. The vineyard, which was entirely replanted in the 60s, is now approaching maturity. R. Parker in Bordeaux Wines. Characteristics of Haut Bages Liberal wine: a dark colour, a bouquet of prune, truffle and toasted oak, its richness and concentration justify great ambitions after ageing. A spicy nose with animal and empyreumatic notes, a significant volume in the mouth, a great silky and persistent tannic structure.
