Fresh red fruits and some grippy plum skin. There are plenty of interesting subtle notes here: tobacco, cocoa, a bit of freshly sanded furniture and some leather. There is still plenty of tannin in there but it's gentle and sweet. This was a well kept bottle and definitely still around its peak. Excellent but not amazing. Very enjoyable and refined.

Purple red colour. Medium to good intensity. Nose of medium intensity. Vanilla and fruity. This wine can do better! Here, the entry on the palate does not have the expected pulp of the vintage and, moreover, a too firm profile appears in the finish. This wine lacks velvet and disappoints me.

Château Haut Bages Liberal
Haut Bages Liberal, a fifth growth, has a splendid plot very close to Château Latour and disperses the rest of its vineyard on the lands of Bages. It therefore has everything to produce a complete Pauillac. M. Bettane in The 1997 Classification. It has consistently produced an excellent, underestimated wine since the mid-70s. The vineyard, which was entirely replanted in the 60s, is now approaching maturity. R. Parker in Bordeaux Wines. Characteristics of Haut Bages Liberal wine: a dark colour, a bouquet of prune, truffle and toasted oak, its richness and concentration justify great ambitions after ageing. A spicy nose with animal and empyreumatic notes, a significant volume in the mouth, a great silky and persistent tannic structure.
