Deep tawny marmelade colour. Very slightly mousey to begin with on the nose. Palate very rich and extremely long, but a bit of dryness at the end. Not complete; a bit jagged. 16 and probably near its peak.

(2016) Izak Litwar / The most important Scandinavian Bordeaux Critic Only 10% of the harvest became Grand Vin. Pale brown. It was intense and strong with toffee aroma on the nose and palate. Began a bit tart on the palate, but gradually became more harmonious in the glass. In spite of barely good weather conditions, this vintage produced mighty and excellent wine, which should last 10 more years.

Château d'Yquem is an absolute reference among great sweet wines and holds a unique place in the viticultural history of Bordeaux. Located at the heart of the Sauternes appellation, the estate benefits from an exceptional terroir and microclimate that favour the development of botrytis cinerea. In the official 1855 classification, Château d'Yquem achieved an unrivalled status by being designated Premier Cru Supérieur, a distinction unique among the grands crus classés.

The identity of Château d'Yquem rests on an extreme level of rigour at every stage of production: very low yields, successive harvest passes (tries) and strict selection of grapes. Long the property of the Lur Saluces family, the estate has belonged since 1997 to the LVMH group, which has chosen to preserve the château's technical independence and historic standards of excellence.

In great years, Château d'Yquem produces vintages that have become iconic, such as the 1908 wine through to the 1921 vintage, considered its pinnacle, by way of 1928 and 1929 which close out a prosperous decade, then the 1937 wine and the 1963 vintage, illustrating an exceptional ageing capacity that can extend over several decades, or even beyond.
