Burgundy classified wines

The Burgundy vineyard can seem very complex and yet it is a great logic.

All the wines are hierarchical in 4 levels with at the base the regional appellations and at the second level the appellations villages. The top is held by the Premier Cru (about 10% of production) and above it the Grand Cru (about 3% of production). The Premier Cru are small specific plots, called "Climat", within a Village appellation. We associate the name of the climat directly after the name of the village (Meursault Les Perrières, Vosne Romanée Les Brûlées…). The Grand Cru are the best climats and become names in their own right (Richebourg, Bonnes Mares, Echezeaux, La Tâche, Clos des Lambrays, Romanée Conti, Montrachet, Grands Echezeaux…)

In Burgundy, the best vintages are: 1945, 1947, 1949, 1953, 1959, 1961, 1962, 1966, 1969, 1971, 1976, 1978, 1985, 1990, 1996, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2009
