expert's opinions
An extraordinary wine, even for this very special Grand Cru. So mineral and pure, with an immense concentration of sour cherries. The exceptionally fine, racy finish soars towards the heavens. You could drink it on release, but it has enormous ageing potential.

This wine was a very pleasant surprise in how well it balanced the classical and modern schools of Burgundy. Unlike many of the other Gevrey-Chambertin Grand Crus tasted that day, it had exactly the rustic, wild character I had been yearning for. There is more to the nose than that: overlapping menthol and slate notes give it an aromatic profile reminiscent of a right-bank Bordeaux. There is certainly some oak spice, but it complements rather than dominates.

Light to medium cherry red. The aroma has a stony, mineral finesse, rather than just fruit. Beautifully dry, fine texture. Succulent, elegant, stony aftertaste.

Château informations
DOMAINE FAIVELEY Merchant and owner - 117 hectares, one of the largest in Burgundy - Faiveley, a family-run business led by François Faiveley, is a unique case. Tasting some Burgundian négociants would lead us to believe that sound management consists of acquiring poor wine from winemakers cheaply and spending a lot of money to say: "We are the best!"
