Wine Spectator January - 2010
Wine Spectator
This smells of Port and raisin, with tanned leather as well. Totally decadent. Full-bodied, offering wonderful fruit and a blockbuster palate of chewy rich tannins. What outrageous opulence and wonder. Shows so much fruit, with mature and aged character, with a soft, yet chewy palate. An old style of great wine. This may end up being the "new" legendary 1970. Just coming around, a beautiful surprise.

Supple, silky, smooth this wine is all about texture. Flavours are equally impressive and complex with spices, flowers and fruit flavours unfolding gently on the palate. Still youthful but reaching its peak. Impressive wine.

One of the hottest vintages of the 1980s, and you'll find edges of soy and creme de cassis here, along with cigar box, baking spices, tobacco leaf and eucalyptus on the finish, with melted tannins. More energy than the 1988, but less charm.

Dark red colour. Good intensity. Evolved. Discreet nose. Soft attack. Round structure, developing quite richly, on a medium but simple body. The tannin is well balanced, fruity. The finish is slightly gripping. Medium persistence.

Château Giscours
Château Giscours

Château Giscours is a Bordeaux wine estate located in Labarde in the Gironde. Château Giscours produces wines under the Margaux AOC. It is among the Third Growth classified in the official 1855 Bordeaux wine classification, and is one of the largest estates in the Médoc. The vineyard covers nearly 86 hectares on a 300-hectare property. Giscours thus continues the legacy of generations of winemakers, making this estate a world-renowned Grand Cru.

Note the existence of a flawless second wine: La Sirène de Giscours.

The best vintages of Giscours are the 1945 wines, the 1961, 1982 and 1989 vintages which are excellent. Finally, the 1990 vintage, the grand crus from 2000 and 2009 as well as the 2015 vintage are among the Château's finest achievements.
