Jane Anson - Inside Bordeaux
Interesting to taste next to the 1982, as this appellation famously over-performed the rest of the Médoc in 1983. A punchy opening of liqourice root, tobacco and crushed rose petals, with a sweeter black chocolate and even butterscotch on the finish as it begins to fade. There is a little more depth through the mid palate than the 1982 but less pristine character, and earthy notes dominate after 30 minutes in the glass. Both are absolutely worth seeking out, but I would give the edge to the 1982.

Dark red colour, quite intense. Intense and refined nose. Remarkable for the vintage, though the container plays a part! Notes of undergrowth and cedar. It surprises with its density and absence of tannic rusticity. The wine even appears powerful in the mid-palate and very fruity. Finish with melted, liquorice-like tannins, quite persistent. Beautiful wine.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Giscours was not as successful as many other Margaux chateaux in this vintage. The 1983 is medium ruby with a soft, fruity, silky texture, light tannins, and medium body. It will evolve quickly as the acidity is low, the pH high, and the wine lacking tannin and great depth.

Château Giscours
Château Giscours

Château Giscours is a Bordeaux wine estate located in Labarde in the Gironde. Château Giscours produces wines under the Margaux AOC. It is among the Third Growth classified in the official 1855 Bordeaux wine classification, and is one of the largest estates in the Médoc. The vineyard covers nearly 86 hectares on a 300-hectare property. Giscours thus continues the legacy of generations of winemakers, making this estate a world-renowned Grand Cru.

Note the existence of a flawless second wine: La Sirène de Giscours.

The best vintages of Giscours are the 1945 wines, the 1961, 1982 and 1989 vintages which are excellent. Finally, the 1990 vintage, the grand crus from 2000 and 2009 as well as the 2015 vintage are among the Château's finest achievements.
