Lovely sweet, cassis fruit with lifted acidity and clarity of flavours. Elegant, perfumed, balanced and intense. A beautiful vintage for Giscours.

Jane Anson - Inside Bordeaux
Attractive sweetness at almost 30 years old, with Left Bank personality, brambled dark fruits, cocoa bean and espresso. The best of the 1990s, this retains firm tannins, melted but confident, and maybe the first in the series where you can feel the slide towards a more modern Giscours. Tertiary notes of tobacco and smoked campfire, but this is in no hurry to go anywhere. One of the first things the Albada family did was to up Cabernet Sauvignon in the vineyards, back to what it was in the 1970s, and although this was early days, the percentage in the blend was already being increased.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
Fully developed, the wine is medium-bodied and loaded with tobacco, wet earth, forest floor and red stone fruits. On the palate, the wine is a bit old school rustic with a bright red plum and cranberry edge along with a touch of herbs and earth in the finish. There is no reason to hold this any longer.

Bright ruby with some yellow at the rim. Light, sweet rather 'bloody' nose. Losing fruit but with a bit of alcohol sweetness rather intruding on the finish. Drying out. Some cheesiness on the finish.

Jean-Marc Quarin February - 1999

Colour dark red. Intense. Nose of medium intensity. Spicy and fruity. On swirling still discreet. Fruity. Soft attack developing on a juicy structure, of good concentration and very, very well balanced, the mid-palate is flavourful and the whole of medium persistence is well balanced with a weakness at the finish. However, aeration improves it and makes it one of the best recent Giscours.

Aromas of black cherry and fresh mushroom. Medium-bodied, with some chocolate character, but a bit lean.

Château Giscours
Château Giscours

Château Giscours is a Bordeaux wine estate located in Labarde in the Gironde. Château Giscours produces wines under the Margaux AOC. It is among the Third Growth classified in the official 1855 Bordeaux wine classification, and is one of the largest estates in the Médoc. The vineyard covers nearly 86 hectares on a 300-hectare property. Giscours thus continues the legacy of generations of winemakers, making this estate a world-renowned Grand Cru.

Note the existence of a flawless second wine: La Sirène de Giscours.

The best vintages of Giscours are the 1945 wines, the 1961, 1982 and 1989 vintages which are excellent. Finally, the 1990 vintage, the grand crus from 2000 and 2009 as well as the 2015 vintage are among the Château's finest achievements.
