Cheval Blanc is a french estate of 37 hectares located in the town of Saint-Emilion, on the edge of the Pomerol appellation. It is a 1st Grand Cru Classé A, it shares the top of Saint-Emilion classification with Château Ausone, Angelus and Pavie. With the Premiers Crus Classés of the Médoc, they constitute the most prestigious estates of all of Bordeaux. The Château produces the "Grand Vin de Cheval Blanc" in red as well as a second wine "Le petit Cheval", which is available in red and white.
Cheval Blanc is one of the most regular wines in the world with the ability to be excellent at any age. The greatest vintages of the estate are : 1921, 1945, the vintage 1947, 1949 wines , crus classés of 1950 and 1953. Then, the vintage of 1955, 1959 wines and grands crus of 1961 are excellent. Finally, the vintage 1964, 1985, and 1990 vintage wines are exceptional.

(08-2018) Slightly musty at first, gets nicer with aeration, shows depth, peat, smoke, forest floor and spices. Firm start, surprisingly juicy and fresh-looking, red fruity, with herbal spices, malt, still shows some tannin, plus well-integrated acidity. Ends on liquorice. Degrades a little faster than Ausone, but should hold up longer due to its tannin and acid structure.
Château Cheval Blanc 1973 was a huge surprise. The nose is intense like a wine from a great vintage. In the mouth it has a subtlety beyond anything we could imagine from this year. This wine has the nobility of Cheval Blanc, and it was not in its power, though it has plenty - but in its complexity and subtlety. In a blind tasting, no one would ever cite 1973. It has a very beautiful substance, woven and full like a noble wine. And what is amazing is that the wine is quite cloudy and the colour is not very reassuring. More proof of the magic of wine.
