This is till young and needed 2-4 hours to open up. A decant is therefore advisable. On the lighter side, quite elegant, with fresh fruit and a tannic bite. Reminded me a little bit of the elegance and lightness of the 2005. Stored perfectly since release.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
In this vintage marked by extreme drought, heat, and hope-crushing rains at harvest time, Cheval Blanc has produced an open-knit, super ripe, roasted style of wine that is now fully mature. It has put on weight, and whilst there is some browning at the edge, the 1976 Cheval Blanc has a full-blown bouquet of ripe fruit, minerals, nuts, and toasty oak. On the palate, the wine is opulent, even fat, with generous, savoury, fleshy, plummy, fruity flavours. Low in acidity and very soft, the 1976 Cheval Blanc has been drinkable since its release, yet it continues to expand and develop. I initially underestimated this wine.

Fleshy yet still tannic, this mature red offers ripe, sweet cherry and raisin flavours with coffee and tobacco accents.

Château Cheval Blanc
Château Cheval Blanc

Château Cheval Blanc is one of the most emblematic estates of the Saint-Émilion appellation, on the right bank of Bordeaux. Classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé A, it occupies a unique place in the history of the Bordeaux vineyard, both through the exceptional consistency of its quality and the singularity of its terroir and grape varieties. Located at the natural border between Saint-Émilion and Pomerol, the estate benefits from a rare mosaic of soils in Bordeaux, combining gravel, clay and sand.

The vineyard of Château Cheval Blanc extends over approximately 39 hectares, divided into numerous distinct plots, each vinified separately in order to preserve the expression of its terroir. The grape variety composition, dominated by Cabernet Franc, complemented by Merlot and a small proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon, constitutes an exception in Saint-Émilion and gives the wines a slender structure, natural freshness and remarkable ageing potential.

The estate's philosophy is based on extremely precise plot viticulture, controlled yields and winemaking conducted with exacting standards and restraint. The ageing process accompanies the wine without ever masking the purity of the fruit or the complexity of the terroir. The wines of Château Cheval Blanc are distinguished by their rare balance between intensity, finesse and aromatic depth.

Among the emblematic vintages are notably Château Cheval Blanc 1947, Château Cheval Blanc 1949, Château Cheval Blanc 1955, Château Cheval Blanc 1982, Château Cheval Blanc 1990, Château Cheval Blanc 1998, Château Cheval Blanc 1989, Château Cheval Blanc 2000, Château Cheval Blanc 2005, Château Cheval Blanc 2010, regularly acclaimed for their longevity and elegance.
