Troplong-Mondot is performing at an exceptional quality level. Readers who have not followed the superb wines emanating from this estate (particularly since 1988) need a wake-up call. At three separate bottle tastings, Troplong-Mondot's 1992 blew away much of the other St.-Emilion competition, and embarrassed many of the premier grand cru classes. The wine boasts a saturated black/purple colour, and a huge, sweet, ripe nose of blackcurrant fruit intermingled with scents of toasty new oak, herbs, and liquorice. It is amazingly concentrated for the vintage, with superb denseness and ripeness of fruit, moderate tannin, and a long, pure, beautifully proportioned finish.

This is a well-made 92 that is still alive twenty years later. Fruity nose, but simple. Pleasant palate with medium body, but without vegetal aspect and without harshness. Ready to drink. Would be ideal in large format.

Château Troplong-Mondot produces great wines in the Saint-Emilion AOC. It is classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé B in the Saint Emilion classification. The vineyard covers 33 hectares of vines. The grape varieties at Château Troplong-Mondot consist of 90% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc, and yields do not exceed 50 hl/ha. The vines have an average age of 35 years.

With great aging potential, the wines are distinguished by their concentration and complexity. Since 1985, Château Troplong Mondot has been producing a second wine called: Mondot.
