Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
Truffle, Cuban cigar wrapper, exotic spice, licorice and lilacs create the complex set of aromatics. Powerful yet poised, rich and fresh, dense and velvety, the finish remains with you for close to 60 seconds. The end notes deliver spicy, silky, creamy tannins, ripe, dark plums and darker red fruits that fill the palate. The wine is structured with all the right stuff to age for decades. This is the wine of the vintage.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Petrus comes galloping out of the glass with bold, expressive notions of Black Forest cake, blueberry preserves and Christmas pudding with nuances of molten chocolate, Chinese five spice, candied violets, licorice and kirsch plus wafts of roses and cinnamon stick. Full-bodied, rich, spicy and fantastically concentrated, the palate has compelling freshness and a solid base of wonderfully ripe, velvety tannins, finishing very long and opulent. The aromatics at this youthful stage are atypical for Petrus and quite stunning—this 2017 is a bombshell! Furthermore, it is a unique style for this estate and one avid collectors should seek out!

This delivers a torrent of pure, unadulterated raspberry fruit that extends effortlessly through the finish, while hints of incense, mineral and rooibos tea glisten tantalizingly throughout. Shows terrific cut and precision, with eye-catching detail. Drink now through 2040.

Falstaff May - 2018
Falstaff
Dark ruby with purple reflections and a narrow bright rim. Intense black berry fruit with hints of juniper and liquorice, smoky-spicy background, black cherry and tangerine zest. Substantial pronounced fruit on the palate with silky texture, fine nougat and salty mineral notes, candied violet and also velvety. Ripe fruit on the finish with great freshness, a touch of strawberry jam, chocolate and liquorice. Already nicely developed and drinking well.

Jean-Marc Quarin February - 2020
Jean-Marc Quarin
First of the vintage in Primeur, this wine maintains its place after bottling. Tasted in the morning at the château, I returned in the afternoon to taste this opened bottle and kept cool. For pleasure, I am giving you the two comments. Morning. Dark, intense and beautiful color. Moderately aromatic, fine, fruity, pure nose, opening with agitation where it gains depth. Entry into the mouth, both oily and subtle, followed by a delightful development in which the wine will reveal itself as fatty, with a present and yet airy body, with a lot of brightness in the flavor. It ends long and totally unbearable. 5 hours later. Dark, intense and beautiful color. Nose more intense than in the morning, fine, with a more powerful development, while remaining subtle. Two aromatic nuances appear: creamy and almond. The aeration has united the mouth a lot. Now the wine presents itself in meticulous breadth, with a lot of brilliance in flavor, a rounded style more united than in the morning and extremely delicious, to which Petrus had not accustomed us. It is a delight, fragrant, deep, with a lot of class in the general and final touch. I would like to draw your attention to the fact that this is not a small vintage in Petrus, but a great one.

Jancis Robinson September - 2021

Tasted blind. Deep ruby colour. Roasted red fruits on the nose. Strawberry and garrigue – quite unique in this vintage and perhaps beyond! Very succulent and round; very red fruited. If anything, a touch too ripe in its red fruit, but there is real persistence to the finish. Creamy and very polished.

The Petrus estate derives its name from a village called "Petrus". Its history is recent and yet this wine is already a legend. Throughout the nineteenth century the area belonged to the Arnaud family. In 1925, a woman from the Libourne region, Ms. Loubat, takes shares in the property. Twenty years later she is the sole owner. Understanding that the wines of the Medoc sell for more than wines of Pomerol, in particular her wines, she did everything she could to take advantage of such a promising terroir.  In a few decades the myth was born. In 1961, Mrs Lacoste and Mr. Lignac, niece and nephew of Mrs. Loubat  inherit the estate. The vineyard is based on the highest hill of the designation, culminating at an altitude of 40 meters. The soil consists mainly of clay which  is well suited to Merlot which constitutes 95% of the plantings. The 12 hectares are the subject of constant work and a constant obsession with détail.  It is thought that Pétrus is more accessible to tasting than  some of its illustrious colleagues..
