Wine Spectator June - 1989
Wine Spectator
Extremely concentrated and tart, with sharply focused cherry, cassis and herb aromas and flavours, showing just enough roundness and complexity on the finish.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Excluding the 1982, the 1986 is the finest Pavie made in the last three decades. It is a full-bodied, deep, tannic, highly extracted wine, with a bouquet that displays a great deal of sweet, toasty oak, and a finish that goes on and on. There are noticeable tannins in the wine, so expect to defer your gratification for some time whilst waiting for this wine to mature. Quite impressive, Pavie is clearly one of the stars of the St-Émilion appellation in 1986.

Jean-Marc Quarin January - 1993
Jean-Marc Quarin
Dark red colour. Good intensity. Evolved on the rim. Bright. Beautiful. Nose of medium intensity. Bright. Beautiful. On swirling, powerful. Same register. Soft and mellow attack developing on a fleshy and round structure that evolves richly on flavourful tannins, well balanced up to mid-palate but a little rustic on the finish. Long persistence slightly marked by liveliness.

Château Pavie
Château Pavie

Château Pavie is one of the greatest growths of the Saint-Émilion appellation, elevated to the top of the appellation’s classification among the Premiers Grands Crus Classés A. Covering 37 contiguous hectares to the south-east of the village, it occupies an entire slope — an asteriated limestone plateau, clay-limestone hillside and sandy-clay foothills — where Merlot predominates, complemented by Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Taken over by the Perse family in 1998, the estate produces a deep, powerful wine built for long ageing.

Its vintages span two eras: the great classics from before the takeover, such as the 1990, sit alongside the highlights of the Perse era — the 2000 vintage, the 2009 wine and the 2020 —, while the second wine, Arômes de Pavie, offers an initial introduction to the house style.
