Served blind but obviously extremely high-quality claret drinking beautifully now. Deep crimson. Rich and mellow – none of the angularity of young Las Cases. Looks mature in every respect but certainly not old. Lovely sweet finish but very appetising.

A classic in development, a wine that will last for decades. It is certainly powerful, but already the shape is finalised, with its plums and berries settling down with perfumes, acidity, just enough tannins and a warm, welcoming richness. A great argument for the superiority of 2001 over 2000.

It develops in roundness with density, while 2002 develops elongated but ample with more precise stages. This 2001 is a ball in the mouth, with vivacity and a lot of concentration. Very, very beautiful length. For the first time, it is superior to 2002, more harmonious.

Château Leoville Las Cases

Château Léoville Las Cases is one of the most iconic estates in the Saint-Julien appellation, renowned for the precision, depth and longevity of its wines. Classified as a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé in 1855, it has distinguished itself for over a century through an uncompromising level of quality and consistency that places it at the very top of the Médoc hierarchy.

Originating from the former Léoville estate, the Château Léoville Las Cases vineyard is today protected by a historic enclosure — a rare distinction in Bordeaux — which guarantees a strong parcel identity. Situated on the immediate banks of the Gironde, facing the great terroirs of Pauillac, the estate benefits from a privileged environment conducive to slow, even ripening of the grapes.

The Grand Vin, often austere in its youth, requires many years of cellaring and boasts numerous highlights: the 1982 vintage, 1990 and the 1996 vintage among the great classics, 2000, the 2005 wine and the 2010 vintage for the more recent period. Alongside it, the Clos du Marquis, a wine in its own right sourced from neighbouring plots, and Le Petit Lion, a more approachable second wine, complete the estate's range.
