The 1998 Lagrange is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot and 7% Petit Verdot. This has a more complex, vibrant nose than the 99, ripe black cedar-infused fruits, tobacco and smoke, a touch of graphite. Classic in style – really grabs your attention. Very smooth on the entry, saturated black fruits, fine tannins, more extrovert in style but not ostentatious. Sappy middle, ripe blackberry and raspberry with cedar and a touch of wild mint. Quite Pauillac in style towards the finish. This is an impressive 98 – excellent. Could do with a couple more years.

Tasted blind, not decanted. This level of rating for this cru, amongst its peers, is an incredible achievement, even a victory! Dark and fairly intense colour. Nose initially discreet, then fruity, fresh, aromatic. It also evokes ripe fruits. Smooth, melting palate with a fresh and juicy taste. Slow tannic evolution, sappy. This wine appears difficult to spit out. The grain of the tannin remains still a little firm on the finish. Normal length.

Château Lagrange

Château Lagrange, a Grand Cru Classé in 1855 located in the western part of the Saint-Julien appellation in the heart of the Médoc wine region. The Château produces 3 wines. The blending of the red wines, which both benefit from the Saint-Julien appellation, leads to the differentiation between the Grand Vin "CHATEAU LAGRANGE", generally produced from old vines with an average age of over 30 years, and the Second Wine "LES FIEFS DE LAGRANGE", which comes from younger vines. The dry white wine with Bordeaux appellation "LES ARUMS DE LAGRANGE" is one of the estate's curiosities. Its production is very limited and represents no more than three percent of the total production.
