Jane Anson - Inside Bordeaux
An excellent vintage full of old school Pauillac markers, with firm slightly rustic tannins, undergrowth, eucalyptus, leather armchair, blackberry, raspberry, loganberry, edging of earth, rust, clove and white pepper. A good quality Armailhac that is ready to drink, with the highest amount of Merlot in the lineup. A little less finesse than some vintages, but this is young, the tannins will elongate further over the next decade. Harvest September 28 to October 7. Around 80% 1st wine. 25% new oak. Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
A blend of 42% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Cabernet Franc and 36% Merlot, the 1998 D'Armailhac is medium garnet-brick in colour with gorgeous spice cake, incense and dusty soil notes over a core of kirsch, blackberry pie and preserved plums with a waft of potpourri. The palate is medium-bodied, soft, spicy and with lovely freshness, plenty of mid-palate fruit and a long and exotic finish. This is fresher than the Clerc Milon.

Château D'Armailhac
Château D'Armailhac

Château d'Armailhac is a Cinquième Grand Cru Classé from Pauillac whose history dates back to the 18th century, deeply linked to that of the Médoc and the Rothschild family. Long known under the names Château Mouton-d'Armailhacq, then Château Mouton-Baron-Philippe and Château Mouton-Baronne-Philippe, the estate reclaimed its historical name in 1989, asserting a distinct identity amongst the great wines of Pauillac.

Located on deep gravel terroirs characteristic of the appellation, the vineyard benefits from grape varieties dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. This diversity allows for precise blends, faithful to the classic style of Pauillac: assertive structure, elegant tannins and aromatic expression combining black fruits, spices and cedar notes.

Under the impetus of the Rothschild family, Château d'Armailhac has experienced a remarkable rise in qualitative consistency, while maintaining an accessible positioning among the classified growths. Vintages such as Château d'Armailhac 1995, Château d'Armailhac 2000, Château d'Armailhac 2005, Château d'Armailhac 2016. illustrate the estate's ability to produce balanced, expressive wines capable of ageing, sought after by lovers of great Pauillacs.
