La Revue du Vin de France
RVF magazine Recognised during the en primeur tastings as one of the estate’s greatest successes, Armailhac is evolving gracefully. It retains its characteristically rounded style, combining softened tannins with a full finish. A slightly preserved-fruit note on the finish reflects the well-ripened Merlot, which makes up 42% of the blend. You can start drinking it now; it already offers great tasting pleasure.

Dark red. Beautiful. Intense. Clear. Medium intensity. Fruity. Smoky. Dominant toasted note on a vanilla base. Touch of cherry. Fleshy wine entering the mouth meticulously and offering substance with normal concentration. The interest lies in the melting character without loss of matter. Well-coated tannicity, still slightly firm but really well balanced. Normal length. This is one of the best vintages of the cru.

Juicy fruit is the dominant character of this delicious, immediately accessible wine made by the Mouton-Rothschild team. There are certainly layers of oak and substantial tannins, but the wonderful fresh fruit simply cannot be subdued.

A mature, soft, easy-drinking Pauillac with tobacco, cassis and earthy, woodland notes. Drink it now, as it is not intended to age much longer.

Pretty unevolved crimson in hue though the rim is starting to fade. Hint of buckwheat on the nose. A little jagged next to the completeness of the Tour Haut-Brion. Bloody and quite dry and solid on the finish. The tannins are more rustic than the Tour Haut-Brion. Relatively light. Good balance.

Jeannie Cho Lee March - 2015

Wonderful lifted flavours that are just starting to open up now - aged tobacco, sweet leather and spices. Lifted and still youthful with good balance and intensity. The wine is just peaking and is drinking beautifully now but should keep for another decade.

Château D'Armailhac
Château D'Armailhac

Château d'Armailhac is a Cinquième Grand Cru Classé from Pauillac whose history dates back to the 18th century, deeply linked to that of the Médoc and the Rothschild family. Long known under the names Château Mouton-d'Armailhacq, then Château Mouton-Baron-Philippe and Château Mouton-Baronne-Philippe, the estate reclaimed its historical name in 1989, asserting a distinct identity amongst the great wines of Pauillac.

Located on deep gravel terroirs characteristic of the appellation, the vineyard benefits from grape varieties dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. This diversity allows for precise blends, faithful to the classic style of Pauillac: assertive structure, elegant tannins and aromatic expression combining black fruits, spices and cedar notes.

Under the impetus of the Rothschild family, Château d'Armailhac has experienced a remarkable rise in qualitative consistency, while maintaining an accessible positioning among the classified growths. Vintages such as Château d'Armailhac 1995, Château d'Armailhac 2000, Château d'Armailhac 2005, Château d'Armailhac 2016. illustrate the estate's ability to produce balanced, expressive wines capable of ageing, sought after by lovers of great Pauillacs.
