If several bottles are in stock, the photo is non-contractual and illustrates the condition of the bottle.

At Château Haut Brion, 1995 was an early year. The summer was characterized by very high temperatures and the absence of rain. The result is a perfectly ripe and healthy harvest.
Lots of tannic structure in the Haut Brion 1994. The tannin is very present but very melted. The aromas dominate the first nose. In the mouth, a lot of volume, a lot of concentration too. It is a long-keeping bottle.

The more I taste this wine, the more I like it. This is one of the few 95s that do not typify the austerity of the vintage. Full-bodied, concentrated and aromatic, with a nose of smoke, cigar wrapper, burning forest leaves, and currants, the is loaded with fresh currants, herbs, cedar, and tobacco on the palate. You find good length and energy making you want to enjoy another sniff and sip. Drink from 2022-2050.

Similarly dense, slightly darker and more opaque. More restrained on the nose at first with intense, deep, tight aromas of black-skinned fruits: notes of damson, black cherry and blackcurrant and a tiny coffee note. The palate has fine depth, it is earthy, smoky and rich. There is a liquoricy darkness, but from the fruit, not oak, a cherry-skin bitterness and lots of firm, dry, chewy tannins. Good acidity, with a long, sweetly-fruited, finely-balanced finish despite the power and obvious ripeness and concentration. One of my favourite's of the night.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
The 1995 Haut Brion has a gorgeous bouquet: less opulent than the bottle encountered in March 2011, here offering a more sedate, but somehow "languid" bouquet of tertiary black fruit, cigar box and autumn leaves that are all beautifully defined. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, open for business with fine tension shimmering throughout. It does not quite possess the breeding or clinical focus of the 1996, but it is a generous Haut-Brion, rounded in texture with Morels and tobacco lining the finish. I would broach bottles of the 1995 before reaching for the 1996.

Tightly wound, reserved Haut-Brion that has classic cedar, tobacco and earthy flavours. Dense and plush on the palate with a lingering finish.

Just lovely wine, and the only one that was not dominated by a single variety, being a Cabernet/Merlot blend. Excellent lustrous, nuanced ruby. Clearly a very fine mature wine. Strong liquorice notes (Haut-Brion 'warm bricks' earthiness?) For a second I wondered if it was a 1998 Hermitage. Very complex. Spread across the palate.

Dark colour, of medium intensity and evolved. Very aromatic nose, with ripe fruit that shows Merlot character. Nuances of cedar. Pleasant palate, with too rapid development. Sensation of fluidity. Medium length. Surprising result for this reputed vintage.

Château Haut Brion
Château Haut Brion

Château Haut-Brion is one of the most iconic wines of Bordeaux. In 1855, it received the supreme distinction of Premier Cru Classé, an exceptional recognition as it is the only non-Médoc estate to feature in the classification of Médoc wines, whilst also being classified as a Cru Classé de Graves. It is today an absolute reference of the Pessac-Léognan appellation.

Its terroir, close to that of Château Latour, lends the wines of Haut-Brion a unique nobility. Without seeking extreme power, the wine distinguishes itself through its elegance, the finesse of its tannins and a remarkable ageing potential, often considered one of the greatest in Bordeaux.

Château Haut-Brion is the oldest, and also the smallest in area, of the Bordeaux Premiers Grands Crus Classés, alongside Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Latour, Château Margaux and Château Mouton Rothschild. While the presence of the vine in the region dates back to Roman times, the first written mention of the vineyard is from 1423. The estate was founded in 1525 by Jean de Pontac and quickly gained international renown. Its reputation was such that it played a part in the very birth of the notion of Grand Cru, mentioned as early as 1663 by Samuel Pepys in his famous diary. More recently, the estate belonged to Clarence Douglas Dillon, former United States Secretary of the Treasury, further adding to its prestige.

The first of the great crus to be vinified in stainless steel vats, as early as 1961, the estate ages its reds for up to twenty-four months in barrels sourced mainly from its own cooperage. Its great vintages mark the history of Bordeaux, from the 1931 wine and the post-war 1949 vintage to the modern benchmarks of the 1982 wine, the 1988 and the 1990 vintage, not forgetting the second wine Bahans Haut Brion, which became Le Clarence de Haut-Brion.
