Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
This wine has been fully mature for a number of years, yet it reveals no sign of drying out. The colour is a deep garnet with some amber at the edge. The nose offers up roasted herbs, sweet black berry and currant fruit, along with earthy notes. This medium-bodied wine is somewhat compressed on the palate, but is true to the elegant, narrowly-built style of most 1981s. It will never resolve all of its tannin, so my advice is to drink it up. The wine has more fragrance than fruit, and appears to be increasingly spice and structural-driven as opposed to fruit-driven.

Château Giscours
Château Giscours

Château Giscours is a Bordeaux wine estate located in Labarde in the Gironde. Château Giscours produces wines under the Margaux AOC. It is among the Third Growth classified in the official 1855 Bordeaux wine classification, and is one of the largest estates in the Médoc. The vineyard covers nearly 86 hectares on a 300-hectare property. Giscours thus continues the legacy of generations of winemakers, making this estate a world-renowned Grand Cru.

Note the existence of a flawless second wine: La Sirène de Giscours.

The best vintages of Giscours are the 1945 wines, the 1961, 1982 and 1989 vintages which are excellent. Finally, the 1990 vintage, the grand crus from 2000 and 2009 as well as the 2015 vintage are among the Château's finest achievements.
