The 1979 is an elegant, supple, very fruity wine, with the smell of ripe plums and spicy, vanillin oak very prominently displayed. Medium bodied, with medium to dark ruby colour and a lush, nicely concentrated texture, this is not a big, hefty, rich Pomerol, but rather a suave, delicate, yet fruity, interesting wine.

Neighbour of Petrus, Château La Fleur-Pétrus is a remarkable Pomerol, refined and round, one of the greatest Pomerols, absolutely essential and still accessible, if one can say so. The terroir of Château La Fleur-Pétrus plays its role fully, with deep gravel soil that gives the wine a natural elegance and finesse. The Cabernet Franc, used in greater quantity, gives superb results, with wines that need almost ten years of aging!
