Typical beautiful Romanée-St-Vivant nose with layers of ripe cherries and violets. Richer than the 1997. The palate is very seductive, powerful with structured tannins. Very sweet, you would think that this was produced in closer proximity to the Mediterranean. Ultra-smooth finish - cashmere texture that cloaks that stern structure. Sublime. Probably the best I have tasted so far.

I have noticed that some bottles of the '98 DRCs have slightly cloudy appearances and reduced aromas. This most recent bottle though possessed a beautifully spicy nose of wonderfully complex and now fully mature secondary fruit aromas. The medium full, rich and equally spicy flavours are shaped by now relatively pliant tannins on the delicious, balanced and lingering finish. Multiple and mostly consistent notes though I have had a few bottles where the reduction was sufficiently pronounced to impair the overall drinking experience.
