Mid blueish crimson with a pale rim. Looks so much younger than the 1989 and 1990 tasted alongside! Nicely evolved. The nose recalls the 1998 tasted earlier. Manages to be both fresh and fleshy (whereas so many Bordeaux 1988s are a bit austere). Well done. Nervy but not skinny. Very 'correct'. Clean and fresh. A certain sweetness at first and then still a little chewy but that just serves to keep it refreshing. Quite long.

Château Cos D'Estournel

Château Cos d'Estournel is one of the most emblematic estates of the Saint-Estèphe appellation, on the left bank of Bordeaux. Classified as Second Grand Cru Classé in 1855, it owes its unique identity to its location on the hill of Cos and to the bold vision of its founder, Louis-Gaspard d'Estournel, a prominent figure of the 19th century nicknamed the "Maharajah of Saint-Estèphe".

From its beginnings, Cos d'Estournel established itself through a rare international ambition for the time, exporting its wines as far as Asia. This openness to the world is still reflected today in the château's unique architecture, inspired by the Far East, a true visual signature in the Médoc. The vineyard is based on a terroir of deep gravel mixed with clay, benefiting from the proximity of the Gironde estuary, giving the wines structure, depth and complexity.
