Strong carmine-garnet, subtle ochre-coloured reflections, broad lightening at the rim. Multi-faceted bouquet, nuances of fresh dark berries, black cherries, a hint of nougat. Juicy, ripe cherries, fine extract sweetness, well-integrated tannins, chocolatey touch, then somewhat leaner on the finish, blackberry-fresh, present tannin, salty minerality on the finish, chocolatey aftertaste.

Revista Adega : Cedar, herbs and beautiful graphite, with the fruit, raspberry, making room for tertiary aromas. In the mouth, the fruit is still very present, with sweetness and an herbaceous touch. Tannins present, with granite minerality and a mineral and very elegant aftertaste. A companion to large dishes.

A cloud of peonies and gunsmoke immediately strikes as you approach the 1982 Château Margaux, and it stands out for its finesse and charm. The tannins continue to cradle the fruit, this is richly nuanced, with pencil lead, strawberry purée, truffles, ash, cocoa, rose petals and saffron.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
The 1982 Chateau Margaux is a wine that I have tasted many times, constantly contrasted against the 1983 to see which is better. Frankly I found that it depends on the bottle, although maybe the 1983 edges it. But it is important to assess the 1982 on its own individual merits because it is a superb First Growth. This was a great bottle: fragrant and beautifully defined on the nose that on this occasion offered a more conspicuous graphite scent, which lent it a Pauillac-like personality. Allowing the wine to open and aerate, the traits one associates with the property emerge—wilted violets and rose petals. The palate is medium-bodied, fresh and mineral-laden, that suggestion of candied orange peel on the entry segueing into layers of pure red and black fruit. There is always something effortless about this Chateau Margaux and the pixelation on the finish is up there with the very best. Is it the best 1982 First Growth? No, it's not quite up there with 1982 Latour or Mouton-Rothschild, however, it is a sublime evocation of the vineyard and it will continue to give pleasure for a couple of decades yet.

Elegant, and refined, the wine kicks off with a blend of violets, tobacco, red and black currants and cedar. Texturally, this is simply gorgeous with its multiple layers of sweet, ripe, silky fruits. Drink from 2023-2035.

All the great tasters have written a comment on this wine. Where is it today? The colour is very dark. The wine is thick and round but it does not reveal itself easily. The nose is closed when the bottle is opened, it needs to aerate. You have to wait a little. Don't be impatient. The palate is very rich, dense, fleshy with aromas of black fruits and spices. A very beautiful length. This wine leaves you a bit K.O. After 30 years in bottle today it is excellent with great potential to last several more years. 95100 (03-2015) Tasted in 2012, we were curious to measure the evolution of this wine. This bottle was perfect. Slightly less closed than the previous one. What richness! What power! What length! This wine is truly exceptional. You can drink it or wait for it… if you can manage to.

A lovely Margaux that is beautifully aromatic and delicate. I have tried this wine at least three times this month and the wine has a lot of bottle variation. Some bottles are expressive and gorgeous whilst others are mute and quite closed. This one is somewhere in between. Silky tannins and nice depth on the palate with a fairly long finish.

Mature Bordeaux red, still with some shine. The nose shows very beautiful complexity, dried flowers, a touch of tea, dark cherries, smoke and a hint of liquorice, excellent complexity. Tight opening, distinctive tannin, shows body and a beautiful density, with plenty of freshness and juiciness, ending with long persistence and very spicy notes. Perhaps not the most refined but a very concentrated Margaux with outstanding length. Now until 2030.

Slightly paler wine; less intense and opaque, but still quite a youthful colour. Beautifully gamy fragrance, with deep notes of autumn berries, tobacco, leather and some exotic spice and incense notes. Hints of truffle, blood and deeply-set plum and black fruits. Silky palate, with a grippy tannic edge framing a core of fragrant bittersweet fruit. This has a gorgeous cedary complexity and a fleshy quality. There's just a hint of being a touch disjointed on the palate, with acids and tannins powerful and needing to integrate some more. It finishes with power and fine length and will undoubtedly be better in 10 years.

Dark, intense and slightly evolved colour. Intense, fine, pure nose with ripe fruit, again a note of plum and a blend of cedar and vanilla. Very beautiful entry on the palate with meticulous texture. Then the wine melts, suave, with a ripe taste, particularly fruity and spicy in the mid-palate. It bounces back in the finish, but its weak point remains its lively touch. Good length. In its current state can be kept for another 20 years. The magic lies in the fact that apart from the colour, it doesn't show its age at all.

Completely different colour from the 1983 – much paler and more evolved, mid ruby. Light nose. Sweet and charming and fully evolved but without the concentration of some of the other wines from the 1980s. A bit dry and dusty on the end. And without great persistence. A little weak compared with the 1983. Great energy but still a bit brutal.

Château Margaux
Château Margaux

Château Margaux is one of the greatest wine estates in Bordeaux. In the AOC, Margaux is listed among the Premier Crus Classés in the official 1855 Médoc wine classification.

If it is a privilege to bear the name of its Margaux appellation, there is no doubt that Château Margaux does it great honour.

For several centuries, this Premier Cru Classé has expressed to the highest degree the exceptional qualities of terroirs patiently assembled by several generations of owners. Maintained and harvested exclusively by hand with extreme care, the 78 hectares of vineyards (75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot) draw their richness very deeply from a particularly dense and thick clay-gravel soil.

Fermentation in oak vats, after which the wine is strictly selected, is followed by 18 to 24 months of ageing in new oak barrels. A masterpiece among Bordeaux wines, the best according to some, Château Margaux reveals finesse and opulence, depth and complexity when tasted, and develops a bouquet of rare elegance with notes of rose, violet, and black fruits, underpinned by tight tannins that require patient ageing before reaching their full potential. The château also produces a second wine, Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux, and a dry white wine, Pavillon Blanc du Château Margaux (100% Sauvignon Blanc).

The greatest vintages of Château Margaux are: 1900, 1928, 1953, 1982, 1983, 1986, 1989, 1990
