CHÂTEAU BEYCHEVELLE 2008

Château Beychevelle 2008 is composed of Cabernet Sauvignon (48%), Merlot (47%) and Cabernet Franc (5%). Château Beychevelle 2008 expresses the characteristic aromas of its terroir and its Saint Julien appellation. On the palate, aromas of red fruits, blackcurrant and spice. This great wine is both elegant and powerful.

Jane Anson - Inside Bordeaux
A little deeper in colour than the 2007, as befits a late-ripening vintage where they made the most of the Indian Summer. The tannins are less melted than the 2007, this still has a few years to go before fully softening, but you can certainly start drinking and enjoying today. Tobacco leaf, raspberry, brambled loganberry and cassis fruit, liquorice root, cloves, fresh acidities, some remnants of the austere tannins of the early years, but this is sliding into being a delicious wine, stretching out through the finish. Harvest September 29 to October 16, one of the later finishes in the lineup, 60% new oak.

Less expressive than the 2012, perhaps a little tame in terms of complexity. Chewy yet balanced, higher acid than the 2012 and 2015, leaving it a little lean. A very classic style of claret.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
Showing some bricking around the edges, you can already enjoy some of the secondary aromas of cedar, mushroom and wet forest scents. The wine is tannic, bright and focused on its crisp, spicy red fruits. It needs at least a few more years to round out and add additional complexities. 91 Points

(4-2011) This has a slightly brawny edge, but feels like it's filling out quickly, with lush, dark fig sauce, black liquorice snap and graphite notes taking on more depth as it airs in the glass. Extra black tea and anise hints flash on the finish.

Adrian van Velsen - vvWine
(A year without Petit Verdot in the blend). Medium ruby, first signs of maturity. On the nose, leather and tea, along with ripe cherries, hay and a touch of mocha. The opening is straightforward, then the wine opens up, showing a medium body and pronounced tannin, with energy and considerable tension; on the finish the wine lingers long, ending on ripe cherries and Christmas spices. Now on a plateau for certainly 10 or more years. 2018-2030. 18 points (91/100)

Château Beychevelle
Château Beychevelle

Château Beychevelle watches over the Gironde at the southern tip of Saint-Julien, where the legend of the "lower sail" gave it its name and the griffin-prowed ship its emblem. Classified in 1855, it draws from its deep Garonne gravels a majority of Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, and owes its nickname of "Versailles of the Médoc" to its pleasure château.

Vinified plot by plot and aged in oak barrels, the wines combine silky tannins, dark fruit and great ageing potential. The landmark vintages of the estate range from 1982 and 1986 to 1989 for the great classics, then to 2005 and the 2016 vintage, the first to emerge from the new plot-by-plot winery. L'Amiral de Beychevelle offers the most accessible expression.
