Jean-Marc Quarin April - 1989
Jean-Marc Quarin
Dark red colour, beautiful. Clean nose, medium intensity. Touch of ripe fruit, toasted notes, woody character. Nuances of dried grapes. Vanilla. On swirling, clean and closed. Hint of alcohol. Supple attack. Fleshy. Development on a powerful structure that is both balanced, tannic, fleshy and full of finesse. Very concentrated wine. A powerful and refined style. Classic wine close to the fruit.

One of the best bottles from Beychevelle in a long time. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and aromas of raspberry and mint with a hint of violet. Lead pencil and fruit appear on the long aftertaste.--1988 Bordeaux horizontal.

Better on the nose, with its earthy, tobacco, cedar, cigar box and red plum filled perfume, than on the classic, firm, slightly austere, crisp palate. There is no reason to hold this for further aging.

Château Beychevelle
Château Beychevelle

Château Beychevelle is one of the most emblematic estates of the Saint-Julien appellation, on the left bank of Bordeaux. Classified as a Fourth Grand Cru Classé in 1855, it has embodied for several centuries a singular style, at once elegant, balanced and profoundly Médocain. Its name, derived from the legend of "Baisse-Voile" (Lower the Sail), directly refers to its majestic location on the banks of the Gironde and its historical role in Bordeaux river trade.

The vineyard of Château Beychevelle extends over approximately 90 hectares, planted predominantly with Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and a small proportion of Petit Verdot. The deep gravel soils, typical of Saint-Julien, ensure optimal drainage and promote regular maturation, contributing to the qualitative consistency of the cru.

The wines of Beychevelle are distinguished by their harmony, silky texture and aromatic finesse, combining black fruits, spicy notes and a subtly oaked touch. Capable of evolving gracefully over several decades, they rank among the classic references of the Médoc. Vintages such as Château Beychevelle 1947, Château Beychevelle 1967, Château Beychevelle 1989, Château Beychevelle 1983, Château Beychevelle 1986, Château Beychevelle 2005, perfectly illustrate the consistency and ageing potential of this great wine.
