Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
The 1996 Valandraud has quite an ostentatious bouquet with copious menthol-tinged red fruit, light peppermint notes - all atypical for this growing season. It might by a little heady but it is feels nicely focused. The palate is medium-bodied with an impressive weight in the mouth, lightly spiced red berry fruit, quite ferrous, almost Pomerol-like with a focused brown spice-tinged finish that lingers nicely in the mouth. It loses some of its harmony towards the finish, becomes loose and lacks the depth of grip of the 1995 Valandraud. There are attractive, light tobacco and white pepper notes lingering on the aftertaste.

Dark colour, of medium intensity, evolved. Fruity, smoky nose with a hint of tar. Light but aromatic palate. Medium length. Some inconsistencies!

Château Valandraud
Valandraud
Château Valandraud, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru. Château Valandraud is the result of the considerable work of a couple passionate about the world of wine, Jean-Luc Thunevin and Murielle Andraud. Over time, this couple acquired 10 hectares in the Saint-Émilion appellation. With the collaboration of the renowned oenologist Michel Rolland and thanks to modern and healthy viticulture, the success of Château Valandraud was immediate. A leader among the so-called garage wines, Château Valandraud has managed in twenty years to become one of the most sought-after wines in the Bordeaux region.
