Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
Fully mature, medium-bodied, soft, silky and elegant with a nose packed with tobacco leaf, flowers and red fruits, the refined finish wraps everything up nicely with its earthy, red currants and cigar wrapper endnotes. No decanting is needed, just pop and pour.

A deep and ripe black berries bouquet with leather, earth, toasted bell pepper and clove. Balanced and smooth mouthfeel. Stewed fruits and old spices with a touch of minerality in the medium-bodied structure. Polished and savoury. Transition to finish is clean and velvety. At its peak now.

Jean-Marc Quarin September - 2001

Dark red colour. Medium intensity. Lively. Nose of medium intensity. Discreet. Fruity when swirled. Quite fresh. Liquorice. As with the 99, this wine is distinguished first and foremost from the others by its structure and length on the palate. A little less "tender" and velvety than 99, its tannic structure is more austere and closer to the wood. I sense a period of transition in the selection approach, but there is also a great vintage here that offers smoothness, despite the tight tannic structure. For ageing. Perhaps a little less aromatic purity than in the more recent vintages 98, 99 and 2000.

Very dark ruby. Very green Cabernet on the nose! Lots of oomph and ripe fruit even if not much subtlety – yet? Almost New World in its bumptiousness. Pretty drying tannins on the finish.

Château D'Issan
Château D'Issan
Château d'Issan, Margaux, 3rd Classified Growth classified as 3rd Growth in 1855. Château d'Issan is a magnificent property located on the banks of the Gironde. It is said that Issan wine was served at the wedding of Eleanor of Aquitaine and Henry Plantagenet in 1152. The grape variety composition of Château d'Issan is classic, with about three-quarters Cabernet Sauvignon. It is a naturally fine Margaux, which can be rich and round when the vintage allows. In recent years, the vintages vinified by Emmanuel Cruse have proven to be even denser and more complex.
