Gorgeous, joyful wine. Dark-ruby color. Beautiful aromas of strawberries, raspberries and spices. Full-bodied and very velvety, with lovely texture and a long, berry-vanilla aftertaste.
Still a youthful deep rubypurple color, the 1989 Magdelaine's aromatics are beginning to emerge after a period of dormancy. Sweet kirsch and black cherry fruit intermixed with spice and a subtle herbaceousness and earthiness are present. On the palate, the wine is classic in terms of marrying elegance with ripeness and finesse. Moderate tannin remains in the finish. Overall, this is a measured, firmly structured, high quality Magdelaine that still requires a few more years of cellaring, atypical for the 1989 vintage in this sector of Bordeaux.
