expert's opinions

95 / 100
Jean-Marc Quarin

(10-2010) Tasted decanted and blind. Dark, moderately intense, evolved color. Fruity, discreet and slightly alcoholic nose. Soft, mellow entry on the palate. Full-bodied, aromatic and gracefully constructed. Melt-in-the-mouth on the mid-palate, it fascinates with the quality of its texture, reminiscent more of Margaux than Saint-Julien. Incurable on the finish, it leaves the palate more aromatic than tannic. It's beautiful and good.

(03-2017) Château Léoville Barton then made up for everything. Youthful Bordeaux red, a wonderfully deep, smoky nose, clearly licorice, plus peat, dark and red berries, noble, complex. On the palate usual reformed but extremely precise. Perfect maturity, tight, dense and yet very elegant, extremely straightforward and clear, sensational structure. In the finish of very good length.

(02-2019) A hint of boiled cabbage on the nose initially but that blew off to reveal a wine that's not yet at its peak. Very refined and round. Very Barton.

(11-2021) Cranky, old-school, austere wine with firm, rustic tannins and a big dose of cedar, tobacco leaf, bright, crisp, crunchy red fruits, and a lean, bordering on severe finish.

(10-1999) A somewhat fleshier and riper wine than usual, with extra dimensions, body, fruit, texture, length of course.
