expert's opinions

I wish this had just a bit more concentration, because the silky, lush, soft fruit, shaved truffle, cocoa and floral notes really get you going. This is showing great today. 91 Points

Jancis Robinson April - 2002
Jancis Robinson
Sweet, gamey and etched on the nose. Very gentle on the palate. Seductive. No blockbuster, but excellent balance. Should develop well thanks to its grainy tannins.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Tasted at Ets J-P Moueix. This has a deep garnet core with a degraded deep brick rim. The nose is very closed at first, brooding and biding its time. But you only need a couple of minutes of gentle aeration to coax out those gorgeous scents of blackberry, wild hedgerow, a touch of blueberry and a hint of vanilla from the oak. The palate is full-bodied, grainy almost chewy tannins, good acidity; fresh vibrant black fruit intermingled with spice, tar and a touch of pepper. Good persistency towards the slightly austere finish – this is an excellent Latour-a-Pomerol. Drink 2011-2025. Tasted May 2009.

Wine Spectator April - 2004
Wine Spectator
Gorgeous aromas of blackberries, spices and lightly toasted oak. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a lovely long finish. The silky texture is beautiful. This is much better than from barrel. Beautiful now. Best after 2008.

Château Latour À Pomerol
Château Latour à Pomerol. After establishing itself in the 40s, 50s and 60s as one of the most sumptuous Bordeaux wines, Latour à Pomerol experienced a difficult period, producing in the following 3 decades wines that were only very good, not exceptional. In recent years, the cru has improved and rejoined the group of the top twenty Pomerol wines. In style, it is more reminiscent of Trotanoy or La Fleur Petrus, to which it was generally compared during its heyday. The wines of Latour à Pomerol are remarkably coloured and dark, and generally stand out as powerful, opulent and fleshy Pomerols. The vineyard is composed of 2 plots, one of which is located near the church of Pomerol, on a bed of deep gravel, and the other, smaller one, on a sandier and lighter soil
