Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Even though this bottle is showing a little volatility on the nose, one can still discern a magnificent La Mission. It has an intense, exuberant bouquet of blackberry, dusty attic, cedar and cigar box with smoke and burning embers developing in the glass. The palate is nicely balanced, more sedate than I recall previous bottles with a slight bitterness towards the finish. It has impressive weight and vigour, imbued with the classicism of the vintage.

Gorgeous cedar and haunting Sandalwood character, and though a touch of green pepper suggests a tiny under ripeness, this just has fresh personality and appeal. On the palate there is real juiciness, which married to plenty of spicy, warming oak, tight and racy tannins and a crisp acidity, is classically austere, and very appealing indeed.

Medium ruby red with a delicate brick-red undertone. Fine aromas of dark berries, a hint of leather. Very harmonious on the palate, red berries, fine sweetness, well-integrated acidity, lively, still with great potential, soft and silky, magnificent structure.

Jean-Marc Quarin May - 2008

The colour is dark, of medium and evolved intensity. The wine presents itself as aromatic and very fruity. A smooth and rich palate. The wine glides all the way through the tasting and finishes long and meticulous in its refined tannic texture. Very good length.

Château La Mission Haut Brion
Château La Mission Haut Brion

Château La Mission Haut-Brion is one of the most iconic estates in Pessac-Léognan, renowned for the depth, longevity and singularity of its red and white wines. Classified as a Cru Classé de Graves, the château shares with its illustrious neighbour Château Haut-Brion a long history and an exceptional terroir, whilst asserting its own stylistic identity, often described as more powerful and more earthy.

Planted on deep gravelly soils mixed with clay and sand, the vineyard benefits from a grape variety mix dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot for the reds, complemented by Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc for the whites. This diversity allows for precise blending, giving rise to wines of great aromatic intensity, structured yet always balanced.

Since its integration into the Dillon family fold, La Mission Haut-Brion has undergone exemplary modernisation of its facilities whilst maintaining a respectful approach to the terroir. The winemaking is carried out with great precision, aiming to preserve the expression of the soil and the purity of the fruit.

Major vintages such as the 1947 red wine, the 1949 vintage, Château La Mission Haut-Brion 1982, the mythical 1989 wine, the 1990 vintage, the 2000 wine, Château La Mission Haut-Brion 2010, illustrate the estate's ability to produce exceptional age-worthy wines, sought after on the fine wine collector's market and recognised for their remarkable evolution over the decades.
