. A delicious red, with plum, berry and tobacco character. Medium-bodied, with soft tannins and a sweet fruit finish. Lovely.

Medium intensity. Slight evolution. Clean. Medium intensity. Smoky. Coffee. Lively. Lovers of the cru will not be disappointed by the substance of this wine, which is all roundness where the fruit is part of the substance, is not fresh but nevertheless the taste is not woody, even if I sense that the wood holds this wine. Round and spicy. Persistence on the wood. I don't like it but I can say that the 97 is well made.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
. I had this wine on three occasions, and was surprised that it did not possess more stuffing and intensity. Whilst good, it is not up to this château's usual standards. The aggressively woody 1997 Haut-Marbuzet reveals a hollow mid-section, but it does offer soft, ripe, coffee, earthy, black cherry fruit presented in a pleasant, medium-bodied format. A bit more concentration, extract, and length would have been preferable.

Château Haut Marbuzet

Château Haut-Marbuzet is a 61-hectare wine estate owned by the Duboscq family, located in Saint-Estèphe. It is a Médoc AOC and is classified as an exceptional Cru Bourgeois. The work of the Duboscq family has made Château Haut-Marbuzet a wine of the highest quality among Saint-Estèphe wines. Château Haut Marbuzet is also full of charm in its youth, developing wonderful spicy notes and red fruit aromas. Considered by some as the most Burgundian of Bordeaux wines, Château Haut Marbuzet was consecrated as Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel during the revision of the Crus Bourgeois classification in June 2003.
