Jancis Robinson April - 2016

Chef de cave, Richard Geoffroy: 'The wine-growing season was marked by extremes, with a few grapes burned by the sun in a spectacularly hot August, and especially grey, rainy weather during the first two weeks of September. Postponing the harvest allowed us to take advantage of the miraculous spell of good weather that followed. That decision defined the creation of the vintage. When the harvest began on 21 September, the grapes were perfectly ripe and healthy.' Disgorged late 2009 and early 2010. Rich and vanilla and broad now, the nose has really opened out. Creamy. Tiny bead and still lots of acidity but now it's lime sherbet and dancing away. Quite an impact on the palate. Neat, firm impact on the finish. Very long and vibrant. Really builds towards the end. Hint of putty. Definitely firm.

This vibrant Champagne is tightly knit up front, with a dense core of smoky minerality and ripe dried apricot and white cherry flavours. Expands on the satiny palate, revealing accents of pastry cream, toast, singed orange peel and toasted coconut that echo on the persistent finish. Drink now through 2028.

Dom Perignon
Dom Perignon

Dom Pérignon is the prestige cuvée of the Moët & Chandon house, in Champagne. Born in the wake of the Hautvillers abbey, it follows a unique rule: to exist only as a vintage wine, from a single harvest year, in a blend of chardonnay and pinot noir sourced from the great terroirs around Épernay. A long ageing on lees gives it its fine bubble and its style that is at once powerful and refined.

From 1921, the very first vintage of the house, to the 2006 wine, Dom Pérignon lines up champagnes built for long ageing: the 1969, the 1993 vintage, the Dom Pérignon 1996 and the 2002 rank among the house's benchmark wines.
