Jane Anson - Inside Bordeaux
At a lovely moment to drink, capturing the vibrant core of St Estèphe black fruits, muscular tannins, with fresh mint-leaf and eucalyptus acidities just as they tip towards tertiary. This is ageing slowly but surely, with the old school charm of Calon Ségur at this period, a touch of iron filings alongside crème caramel, black truffle, smoked earth and raspberry purée, all leisurely unfolding and stretching out the experience.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
It is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. The bouquet is fully mature, not complex but perfumed with wilted violets infusing the candied red fruit, clove and dried orange peel aromas. It probably is a little static and rustic compared to more recent vintages, probably typical of this era for the estate. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannin. Like the 1986 Phelan-Segur, this is a "gutsy" Saint Estèphe, rough around the edges, a bit square-jawed and uncouth. Yet there is plenty of density and satisfying freshness, with a tang of spice on the cedar-tinged finish. Well-kept bottles will continue to give pleasure. You will enjoy this if you expectations are not sky high.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
Firm, crisp, meaty, chewy, old-school styled, classic Bordeaux with rustic tannins and cedar, tobacco, and leafy herbs that accents the crunchy red currants. Drink from 2022-2040.

Aromatic and fruity, this is now rich, soft and charming but relatively evolved.

Château Calon Segur
Château Calon Segur

Château Calon-Ségur is a 94-hectare wine estate located in Saint-Estèphe on the left bank of the Gironde. Third Grand Cru Classé (official 1855 Médoc wine classification) of the Saint-Estèphe appellation, the grand vin is often recognisable by its label. The estate's grape varieties consist of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc with vines averaging 40 years of age. Calon-Ségur wine is generally considered one of the most powerful and full-bodied wines of the Saint-Estèphe appellation.

The estate also produces a second wine, Marquis de Calon Segur, and a Cru Bourgeois, Capbern Gasqueton. The best vintages of Château Calon-Ségur are 1982, 1988, the 1995 vintage as well as the 1996 wines and the 2000 vintage. Finally, the 2003 vintage, 2005, 2009 wines, 2010 and 2014 are excellent.
