Fine hints of graphite and cassis, black forest berries, a subtle herbal spicy note, a touch of noble wood, with a hint of nougat in the background. Juicy with dark berries, fresh acidity, well-integrated tannins, mineral in expression and will benefit from further bottle ageing.

Dark garnet in colour, tobacco leaf, spicy currants, dried flowers, and blackberries are found on the nose. Medium-bodied, fresh, vibrant and lifted, the fruit is on the elegant, classic side with good sweetness and should be relatively precocious. The finish delivers a nice, spicy, minty, uplifted endnote. The wine was produced from 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cabernet Franc, 7% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot, 12.9% ABV, 3.65 pH. The harvest took place September 28, finishing October 13. Drink from 2025-2047.

81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cabernet Franc, 7% Merlot from old vines, 1% Petit Verdot. 100% new oak, 12.9% alcohol (the highest Cabernet proportion since 2009). Delicately fragrant nose, the fruit is clear and pure, the oak still minimally perceptible, not intrusive, superbly integrated, a subtle, mineral note accompanies it, very complex and super delicate. On the palate straightforward, slender, one wants to swallow immediately, so velvety and round is the attack, the wine has a very good structure, the acidity is juicy, the tannins are fine-grained, and in the finish the wine resonates for a very long time. I cannot remember the last time I was able to taste such a beautiful, super-feminine Calon.

Château Calon Segur

Château Calon-Ségur is a 94-hectare wine estate located in Saint-Estèphe on the left bank of the Gironde. Third Grand Cru Classé (official 1855 Médoc wine classification) of the Saint-Estèphe appellation, the grand vin is often recognisable by its label. The estate's grape varieties consist of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc with vines averaging 40 years of age. Calon-Ségur wine is generally considered one of the most powerful and full-bodied wines of the Saint-Estèphe appellation.

The estate also produces a second wine, Marquis de Calon Segur, and a Cru Bourgeois, Capbern Gasqueton. The best vintages of Château Calon-Ségur are 1982, 1988, the 1995 vintage as well as the 1996 wines and the 2000 vintage. Finally, the 2003 vintage, 2005, 2009 wines, 2010 and 2014 are excellent.
