Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
The 2009 Calon-Ségur is deep garnet in colour and opens with a beautiful fragrance of redcurrant preserves, cassis, black cherry compote and red roses plus nuances of cigar box and cinnamon stick. Medium-bodied and wonderfully elegant in the mouth, it has a compelling line of very ripe, fine-grained tannins and oodles of freshness supporting the fragrant layers, finishing long and perfumed.

Falstaff February - 2020
Falstaff
Deep dark ruby garnet, violet reflections, subtle brightening at the rim. Attractive noble wood spice, fine cedar, roasted aromas, dark berry fruit and ripe morello cherries underpin it, mineral, grapefruit zest, a multi-faceted bouquet, nuances of cardamom underlie. On the palate medium complexity, black cherries, present tannins, fresh acidity, salty minerality on the finish, can already be enjoyed but still needs time.

Adrian van Velsen - vvWine
The nose is still clearly dominated by wood, behind it many red and dark berries, some vanilla, fine spice. Taut on the attack, very linear, with top structure, somewhat flaky tannin, still very, very young, finishes with red fruit and long. A wine with character and elegance. I like the style, I guessed northern Médoc. Definitely needs more time.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
Secondary notes of wet earth, tobacco, truffle, spice are just now coming to the surface. A bit firm for the vintage, with some leafy, herbal nuances accompanying the Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine is still young. Give it another decade in the cellar.

Jancis Robinson February - 2019

Tasted blind. Mid crimson. Light nose. Rather dilute. Not typical for the vintage. Over-produced? Rather drying, sandy, light tannins on the end. This bottle was thought to be mildly TCA-affected but there was no duplicate.

Plum colour, still intense right through to the core of the wine, this is just a near-perfect St Estèphe, concentrated yet finessed, with balance, less muscular than you would find in most vintages of Calon today, still with depth but also nuance, full of pleasure and joy, cocoa bean, cigar box, blackcurrant, smoked earth, oyster shell finish. Owned by Denise Gasqueton at the time, and makes me a little nostalgic for the old school charms of this era at Calon.

RVF Magazine The wine has not been re-tasted since its bottling. En primeur, it showed remarkable potential. The best Calon Ségur since the illustrious 50s and 60s.

Château Calon Segur
Château Calon Segur

Château Calon-Ségur is a 94-hectare wine estate located in Saint-Estèphe on the left bank of the Gironde. Third Grand Cru Classé (official 1855 Médoc wine classification) of the Saint-Estèphe appellation, the grand vin is often recognisable by its label. The estate's grape varieties consist of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc with vines averaging 40 years of age. Calon-Ségur wine is generally considered one of the most powerful and full-bodied wines of the Saint-Estèphe appellation.

The estate also produces a second wine, Marquis de Calon Segur, and a Cru Bourgeois, Capbern Gasqueton. The best vintages of Château Calon-Ségur are 1982, 1988, the 1995 vintage as well as the 1996 wines and the 2000 vintage. Finally, the 2003 vintage, 2005, 2009 wines, 2010 and 2014 are excellent.
