Jancis Robinson November - 2009
Jancis Robinson
Most unusually for Rousseau's 2008s, this wine was treated to 100% new oak. A great spring in its step and, most unusually for a 2008, it smells of autumn undergrowth. Great pure scents. Real texture, perfume and sweetness on top but some real majesty of structure and ambition. Bravo! A very great wine.

Domaine Armand Rousseau
Domaine Armand Rousseau

Domaine Armand Rousseau was founded at the beginning of the 20th century by Armand Rousseau. The estate comprises more than 15 hectares of vines, including 8.5 hectares of Grand Crus and 3.8 hectares of Premier Crus cultivated using sustainable farming methods. The vineyard soils are limestone and clay-limestone.

Domaine Armand Rousseau produces six emblematic Burgundy Grand Crus: Chambertin, Charmes Chambertin, Chambertin Clos de Bèze, Ruchottes Chambertin, Mazy Chambertin and Clos de la Roche.

The wine aging is done in 100% new oak barrels for Chambertin Clos de Bèze. Clos Saint Jacques is aged in 70% to 100% new barrels depending on the vintage. All other Grand Crus are aged in one-wine barrels. The barrels come from Allier forests and undergo medium toasting. The aging period is 20 months, during which two rackings are performed. Bottling usually takes place in April after a light plate filtration to preserve the delicate fruit of Pinot Noir. The wine is bottled by gravity, directly from the barrels after blending.

The wines from Domaine Armand Rousseau are made for long-term aging: 15 years for Premier Crus and 20 years for Grand Crus.
